Today is Arnold Palmer’s 82nd birthday.

Arnold Palmer

Arnold Palmer in the Masters opening ceremony, 2011

To date I still haven’t met Mr. Palmer, but I hope to some day.  I have had the pleasure of watching him play on the then Senior Tour in a threesome with Jack Nicklaus and Lee Trevino.  That was a blast.  Arnie also drove by me on hole #12 at Augusta in a golf cart at the Tuesday practice round of the Masters in 2010.  That’s the closest I’ve gotten so far!

Happy 82nd to the King.

I believe all golfers should have an ‘Arnie Story’…my best is when x2yrs of age at Royal Troon 1962 which Palmer won. As is the wont of a small child I was crying just as Palmer was about to putt…he backed off and gave my father a subtle look…my father placed his hand over my mouth to muffle the noise and Palme went back to sink the putt!

  2. Love that story Boynie. That is COOL! My story pales. Need a better one.

My beloved mother (RIP) had an Arnie story. She and my dad were watching him play. Arnie comes off a green (presumably making birdie), walks by my mother, looks her right in the eye and winks at her. Dad felt like chopped liver at that point.
