You won’t believe what I got from BlackSocks.com. Take a guess. Okay I’ll tell you. Black socks! Can you believe there’s a web site dedicated to black socks? Actually they have other items too like underwear and shirts. If the underwear is black would they be called “tighty blackies?”
Since Gary Player and I have the same wardrobe consultant
Half of my golf apparel is black. That way it matches the other half. My black socks go right along with my black shoes, black shirts and black shorts. I wonder if Mr. Player’s socks are made in Morocco like mine though.
BlackSocks.com’s Shorty Socks
The “Shorty” model of black socks is super comfortable. They’re made from 87% cotton fibers and are enriched with 1% Elasthan and 12% Polyamid. I actually have no idea what Elasthan and Polyamid are, but the socks are stretchy, smoooooth and very comfortable. They also breathe quite well.
Your Porsche and your socks have a spoiler
Ever have your socks slip into your shoe in the back? This is extremely irritating. The Shorty sock has a thicker area above the heel called a spoiler. The spoiler insures that the sock won’t slip down into the shoe.
The only disadvantage to the spoiler, other than increased aerodynamics, is getting debris inside the back of the sock. If you’re like me and have to hunt through the desert and dry brush for errant shots some debris will end up in there. That problem is easily resolved though. Hit better golf shots.
I’d be curious to see if BlackSocks.com’s underwear has a spoiler and how that is implemented…
September 9, 2009 or 09/09/09! That won’t happen again.
The Presidents Cup isn’t the Ryder Cup. But watching the Presidents Cup every other year beats the alternative, watching no golf. Team captains Greg Norman (my pal) and Fred Couples (my swing clone) announced their picks today.
Picks and HOG 2-bit analysis
Freddie picked Lucas Glover and Hunter Mahan for the USA Team. These are very solid players. Very strong picks.
The Shark picked Ryo Ishikawa and fellow Aussie Adam Scott for the International Team. I’d call that one one for two. Ishikawa is very young, but could be a fearless good pick. I’m afraid that the Aussie connection may not pan out for the International Team though. Adam Scott has not been playing well. But you never know. Sometimes players perform better in a team environment, like Monty and Sergio Garcia.

I’ve been critical for the first two years of the PGA Tour “playoff” system, and for good reason. It was a bogey. Big name players like Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson were skipping playoff rounds. Last year Padraig Harrington won two majors but didn’t qualify? That is actually a double bogey.
Has the tweaking of the playoff system finally worked?
Perhaps the tweaking and refining the FedEx Cup system has finally paid off. During this weekend’s 2nd round of the playoffs, I watched every minute of all four days of television coverage. I usually only do that during major championships. Not only that, I was excited. I was rooting for players like Steve Stricker and Paddy and Sean O’Hair.
Or…. Have players like Steve Stricker made it more exciting?
Maybe the system’s tweaks aren’t why I’m interested more this year. Maybe the playoff is more exciting because of the players themselves? The playoff isn’t a runaway for Tiger Woods now that Steve Stricker has taken the lead and Tiger has moved to 2nd place. Now there’s some real pressure and excitement.
Whatever the reason, I hope playoffs in the years to come can be as exciting as this year’s.
