Tiger Woods 2009 WGC Match PlayI watched every hole of Tiger’s loss against Tim Clark yesterday. Tim Clark wasn’t afraid of Tiger, which was refreshing. Clark hit some great clutch shots en route to his 4&2 win.

Rusty Tiger

Tiger’s game looked a little rusty yesterday. His normally deadly short game wasn’t quite working. His distance control on his chipping was on the long side. He had some directional issues with his approaches. But just when I thought his short game was not looking great he holed out from a bunker for birdie.

The knee?

On one bunker shot Tiger had about the worst fried egg I’ve ever seen. He took as big of a lash at that thing as I’ve ever seen him take and the knee looked fine. That huge, hard swing didn’t phase Tiger at all. The knee doesn’t appear to be a factor at this point.

Next tournament for Tiger?

In the post game interview Kelly Tilghman asked Tiger when he planned to play next. Naturally she mentioned Doral, where Tiger plays well. Tiger danced around the question and didn’t give a solid answer. I figure he’s going to go home and feel out the knee and analyze his game.

My money is on Tiger returning for Doral at this point and if not a guarantee for Bay Hill.

I’m not so sure that Tigger is going to be having such a great year in terms of winning tournaments.

The new younger guys have arrived and they see Tigger as an ‘older’ player that they can take down. McIlroy, Kim & Villlegas respect him but are not scared of him. It is going to be fun to watch.
