British Open exclusively on ESPN starting in 2010 – Boo-NO!

Great. All four days of the British Open will be aired on ESPN starting in 2010. First the Masters and now the British.  Isn’t anything sacred?   I have the same fears I’ve always had about ESPN doing golf.  I call it “ESPNification.”  I can’t wait to hear Chris Berman’s no-longer-funny sports names. I can hear it now…

Chris Berman: “Woop, woop. Mickelson just drained a putt. He’s one below par. Now let’s go to Roger Chocolate Malt-be.”

Stuart Scott: “Straight butta! Goosen is as cool as the other side of the pillow.”

Chris Berman: “Watch Tiger’s ball go rumblin’ bumblin’ stumblin’ deeep into the bottom of the cup.”

Stuart Scott: “Boo-yah! Tiger must be the bus driver cause he was takin’ Phil to school.”

Then Vijay Singh backs a wedge up…

Stuart Scott: “Yup yup. Call me big daddy when you back that thing up. Bubba Watson just hit a 342 yard drive. Wow! That as hardcore as the Wu-Tang Clan on steroids!”

I think I’m gonna be sick…

Note: All Scott and Berman quotes used here are REAL. Yes, even the stupid “one below par” quote… OMG. GAG ME.

  1. The only good thang about ESPN is they’ll stick around till the last putt drops, unlike ABC or CBS who can’t wait to switch to an infomercial and make another million.

  2. A good thing in MY area of Salt Lake, is that this event won’t be preempted by the Mormon church, who takes over TV here twice a year for their “conference.”

  3. Miranda says:

I can tolerate chris berman. It’s that Carl Ravech that I don’t like. I think he tries too hard to be the guy who does the figure skating coverage for ABC.

I hope this means Judy Rankin will still be doing the on course work for the British Open. I like her.

  4. I hear you on Judy Rankin. She’s cool in my book.
