Presidents CupVery interesting and fun golf to watch in the 2nd day four-ball competition at the Presidents Cup. The wind was very strong, 25-40 mile per hour gusts.  Wind and the extremely fast greens are making these top players hit amazing shots to get near the hole. Many pars are winning holes.

The International team had a better showing on day two, but remains two points behind.  Interesting that Tiger Woods has yet to win a match, now 0-2.  Once again, many (like me) think that Keegan Bradley should have been picked over Tiger.  Yes I understand that Tiger is the best player of our era, but Bradley’s play this season has been far better.  Still more golf to be played, so we will revisit this Sunday.

Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk were wisely paired up again and defeated Scott/Kim 2 & 1.  They’re 2-0 so far.  I sense a Mickelson/Furyk team in the 2012 Ryder Cup.

USA Leads 7-5
USA Result International
Watson/Simpson WIN 3 & 1 Els/Ishikawa
Johnson/Woods LOSE 1 down Baddeley/Day
Mickelson/Furyk WIN 2 & 1 Scott/Kim
Haas/Watney LOSE 1 down Ogilvy/Choi
Kuchar/Stricker WIN 4 & 3 Yang/Allenby
Mahan/Toms LOSE 2 & 1 Goosen/Schwartzel

USA leads 4-2
USA Result International
Watson/Simpson WIN 4 & 2 Els/Ishikawa
Haas/Watney HALVED Ogilvy/Schwartzel
Johnson/Kuchar HALVED Baddeley/Day
Mickelson/Furyk WIN 4 & 3 Goosen/Allenby
Mahan/Toms WIN 6 & 5 Kim/Yang
Woods/Stricker LOSE 7 & 6 Scott/Choi

Surprising result in the Tiger Woods/Steve Stricker vs Adam Scott and K.J. Choi match. Choi/Scott absolutely demolished Woods/Stricker. Makes me wonder if the choice by Fred Couples to pick Tiger rather than Keegan Bradley was a good one even more. This match however, was the only match the international team won.

Mickelson/Furyk was a nice pairing as well as Watson/Simpson.

On a much more important note, I can’t stop freaking out every time I see Geoff Ogilvy’s Super Mario mustache.

Presidents CupSet your DVR or stay up late.  The Presidents Cup is on TONIGHT starting on Golf Channel at 9PM ET.  Tiger Woods and Adam Scott are paired up so the play should be that much more entertaining.  Odds are high that Steve Williams, Tiger’s former caddie and now Scott’s current, will say something politically incorrect.

Next year’s Presidents Cup will be held in Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia.  Royal Melbourne is Australia’s oldest golf course.

Today we found out who 3/4 of the captains assistants will be.

U.S. Captain Fred Couples named Michael Jordan and Jay Haas as assistants.

International Team Captain Greg Norman (my buddy), named Frank Nobilo as one assistant and will name the 2nd assistant next year.
