Normally I dread fall and winter. But when I have an apparel piece as nice as this sitting here burning a hole in my psyche it’s a different story.

Say hello to the new Galvin Green Dash Jacket. I just tried it on. I may wear it the rest of the week, even though the temperatures here are still in the upper 90’s.

It may take a few weeks to put this beauty to the full fall test so stay tuned and I’ll get my review posted as soon as conditions allow.

Last fall and this spring here in northern Utah has been the perfect environment for testing out top-of-the-line wind/rain apparel.  I’ve been using my Galvin Green Bart Jacket and absolutely loving it.  This jacket is tremendous.  Let’s take a look.

Windstopper Overview

Galvin Green is one of the world’s best in terms of outerwear and weather resistant fabrics.  The Bart jacket is a prime example.  This stretchable, breathable Gore-Tex jacket is completely wind proof.  Windchill is eliminated.  Do you hear that my friends in Scotland?  The key is the “windstopper membrane” which is a protective layer laminated to another light textile layer.  The membrane is made of the versatile polymer polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE).  The PTFE is expanded to create a “microporous structure.”  This sounds like Klingon, but in English it means a breathable material which protects against wind and moisture but allows the wearer’s body to breathe and stay comfortable.

The user benefits from the jacket’s “thermoregulatory function,” which keeps regulates the body temperature for optimal performance.

The fit is tapered in the sleeves and aided by flexible material, as well as a draw string in the waist area to keep the wind and weather out.

No Wonder

I’ve been enjoying how great this jacket feels and performs (not to mention the fantastic looks), not knowing how incredible the technology that makes it happen really is.  Researching this jacket has matched the high expectations from Galvin Greena; confirmation in what I already knew, Galvin Green rules.

Here I am enjoying my jacket’s thermoregulatory function, provided by the expanded microporous structure of the polymer polytetrafluorethylene…

Colors/Sizes

Colors include: steel white/gray/borolo red, navy/blue/white, black/deep ocean(blue)/white, iron grey/black/white (pictured in this article), black/iron grey/apple (light green).

Sizes: sizes run from small to XXXL.

Care

I dislike high maintenance golf apparel. I need to be able to throw a garment in the washer and dryer and expect no wrinkles, shrinkage, or fading. No problem here. The Windstopper is cleaned with washer and dryer, and can even be ironed! I’m curious about their recommendation to keep the piece away from fire. Those who like to burn their golf apparel may want to stay away from this one.

Conclusion

The Windstopper ($275) is my current go-to jacket for wind and rain.  On the course the Windstopper lets me swing free with no restrictions.  It’s also the go-to at the office, where I sit right below an air conditioning vent.  I wish I’d hat this beauty for that last trip to Scotland. It’s looking like Ireland and Scotland are coming up and the Bart Windstopper will be definitely making the trips.

I’ve had the pleasure of testing out some great polos from Galvin Green recently. Today’s feature is the Ventil8 (yes, I know) short sleeve golf polo.

wpid-20150902_115636.jpg

Let’s take a look at some of the features of the Ventil8.

  • Breathability via special fabric which keeps the player dry and wicks moisture away from the body
  • Comfort comes from the fabric being very light and flexible
  • The fabric also helps dissipate excess heat from the player’s body
  • Anti-bacterial technology keeps the shirt fresh and helps prevent bad odors
  • Easy to care for via regular machine wash and hang-dry

Style

The Ventil8 is very simple, yet very classy, athletic, and stylish. The cut and trim lines of the polo make a non-physical specimen like me even look decent.

Performance

The polo looks athletic and allows for athletic movements and flexibility without binding, pulling, tightening, or restricting the body movement of the golfer.

Colors

The Ventil8 is available in seven colors.  Pictured here is midnight blue with white trim.

Sizing Advice

Galvin Green is based in Växjö, central Sweden. As such, the sizing tends to be what I call “euro” fit, which means “does not fit fat American.” I normally wear an extra-large but need to wear a double extra-large in Galvin Green’s shirts.

Entertaining Care Instructions

I’m mildly entertained by the care instructions:

“Machine wash warm, with similar colours. Do not use bleach or fabric softener. Do not tumble dry – hang to dry. Iron at low temperature 110°/230F. Do not dry clean. Do not iron on print. Keep away from fire.”

Keep away from fire?  Dang.  I was going to do some fire dancing and juggle flaming golf balls while wearing this polo.  Glad I read that part.

Conclusion

Galvin Green’s Ventil8 is a very stylish and super-high performance golf polo.  Even in the hottest parts of summer with temperatures in excess of 105F here, the polo performed tremendously.  It kept me dry and allowed me free movement to swing away.

Make sure you buy one extra size up if you like a more loose fit.

Galvin Green Millard Polo

Galvin Green is a Swedish apparel company with some very stylish and high technology offerings.

Case in point is today’s review, the Millard Polo. This piece is the iPhone 6 of golf polos, but you don’t have to wait in line overnight to get one or sign a two year contract to wear it.

Body Mapping

The Millard polo uses “body-mapping” technology. The brainiacs at Galvin Green know all the crucial areas on the body which need ventilation and have increased ventilation in those areas to help the player remain comfortable and dry, even in extreme conditions.

Fabrics

The fabrics/fibers used to construct the Millard Polo wick the moisture away from the player’s body and disperse that moisture over a large area, where it evaporates. The fabric is very high strength and will not wash out or wear out. The fabric in the polo provides valuable UV protection to protect the wearer from the sun, and it also features antibacterial properties to keep the shirt, and its wearer fresh and odorless.

Style

The looks and style of this polo are as groundbreaking as its technology. I like the fact that the colored panels promote a fit and sporty look, even with my square torso.

Today’s shirt script…

Performance

During rounds of golf the polo flows with the golf swing. No binding, pulling or uncomfortable spots (see critiques below however).

I played a round of golf in 94 degree temperatures a few days ago. The sweat on my upper body was wicked away and I felt quite cool and try compared to the ambient temperature.

Critiques

I do have issues with the sizing. Many swedes may be skinny and like tight fitting clothes but in the USA we are a little bigger. I happen to dislike tight fitting apparel. I normally wear an extra-large but due to the swedish sizing I had to go with a double-extra-large.

Colors/Sizes

Sizing for the Millard runs from small to double-extra-large.  I’d recommend one size above what you normally wear.

There are four colors available: orange, white, gray, blue.

Conclusion

My Millard Polo is a gamer in a closet which has at least 50 competing polos.  I love the looks, style, and performance.  The maintenance (machine wash) is very convenient.
