Major booboo on Nike’s part

Nike Golf president Bob Wood has announced that Nike has been selling drivers which are illegal according to the USGA regulations. “You might hit your drives 1-2 yards further” says Wood. He also goes on to say that PGA Tour players such as KJ Choi don’t have the non conforming drivers. See video:

Nike has implemented the “Nike Sumo2 conformance program” which is where owners of the illegal driver will be sent a postage paid package which they’ll send the old driver back for a USGA conforming replacement. This program goes from March 26th to April 30th.

I’d save ’em for Ebay

If you’re smart and you own an illegal Sumo SQ I’d hang on to it. They’ll probably be fetching a pretty penny on ebay very soon. In fact, I’d write more about this but I’m on my way to the used club bin at the golf store to pick up a few…

The Good News

The good news from Nike is that the revolutionary Nike Sumo drivers “Mickey” (pictured below left) and “Renob” (below right) are not part of this program. You can hang on to your Mickeys and Renobs!

Will you watch any of the coverage on Masters.org?

The latest HOG poll is now active. Time to gear up for The Masters! So the latest poll, which will run through The Masters, asks if you’ll watch any of the online coverage on Masters.org.

I personally love the extra coverage with my nice speedy internet connection. I watch the main TV coverage of The Masters and usually have a computer or two on ALL day each day during Masters week. You can watch players hitting balls on the range. You can watch the Masters par three contest and of course a ton of coverage “live from amen corner” or “amen corner live.”

This year I had even a cooler idea than having just a computer streaming their coverage. With a video input on my new 42″ plasma TV, I’m going to hook a computer directly in. I’ll be able to watch the Masters coverage streamed from Masters.org on my 42″! I can do PIP (picture in picture) to watch the TV coverage at the same time as the streaming!

VOTE NOW! WILL YOU WATCH ANY OF THE STREAMING COVERAGE ON MASTERS.ORG?

How I test the balance of mallet putters

I made a little YouTube video showing how I like to check the weight balance of mallet putters. I happen to be testing the RedEye i330 Laser Putter in this video (review on that club coming soon).

If the putter face is parallel to the ground when I balance the club on my finger the weighting feels right. Some mallets are way off and those particular ones don’t seem to want to travel on the target line for me.
