Putter thefts are up at my local club. I just had the sweetest vintage Ping Zing putter ripped off there. Just when you let your guard down they get you.
Balls
Someone had balls enough to steal a Scotty Cameron putter right out of a pro’s bag in the office at this same course last week. The putter was later found in a hedge around the back side of the pro shop. I figure the thief realized they’d figure out who he was so he dumped it.
Unfortunately my putter was not found in any hedges.
Remember those Nike Golf ads with Frank (Tiger Woods’ head cover) where a bunch of players were sneaking around in Tiger’s garage? They were checking out Tiger’s Nike driver. “Mo money Sabbatini, mo money.” I always loved that ad.
Now Sabbatini is in the final group with Tiger at the Wachovia. He’s moved from Tiger’s garage to the final group with him. Anyone with a brain would favor Tiger in that pairing but Sabbatini is so cocky he just might think he can beat Tiger. That may be good enough for him to not bow down to Mr. Woods.
Grouchy has a good piece on a lucky cat who was the third player in the practice round with Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan. I guess my invitation got lost in the mail.
The big 27 hole tournament turned into a major rain storm. Thanks to my impressive Frogg Toggs I was dry. But since nobody else in the tournament was dry, they cancelled it. We were on about the 20th hole and doing fairly well. The tourney has been rescheduled to June 1st.
I’m playing in a big 27 hole tournament Friday. I’m playing with my pop as a guest at his club. The format is one that keeps you interested: Nine holes best ball, nine holes scramble, nine holes alternate shot. Alternate shot is nerve racking. There’s a ton of pressure.
The weather is supposed to suck with a 60% chance of rain and a high of 50. I’ll be prepared with my Frogg Toggs rain suit (review coming), my propane heater, towels etc.
My pop and I have won this thing a couple of times and last year we took 2nd despite shooting even par (yuk) in the scramble portion.
A (wet) report will follow.
