Most golfers like to shag balls out of the woods, the lake, hazards etc. I’ve always wondered what sort of performance loss, if any, those balls have after sitting there for days or weeks or years. Here on my home course we have a lot of water hazards. I’ve fished hundreds of balls from there, and the swampy surroundings. We also have many freeze/thaw days and nights in the spring and fall. I’ve wondered what effect freezing and thawing has or the ball sitting submerged in water for “x” days.
Now I have a tool to test my balls
All joking aside, Hexcaliber is a serious machine. This solid chrome steel unit performs three different tests on golf balls:
Nike and DuPont have teamed up to produce a new golf ball, the 20XI. Rather than going with a rubber core, they’ve developed a new thermoplastic resin core. The technology in this ball allows for it to go farther, yet spin more around the greens. In other words, what everyone wants in a golf ball.
Here’s a short video on the new Nike 20XI golf ball featuring Tiger Woods, Michelle Wie, Stewart Cink, Paul Casey, Suzanne Pettersen, Justin Leonard and Nike designer Rock Ishii.

A new package coming out this year will help golfers kill two birds with one buck. Bridgestone Golf is teaming up with Michelob Ultra on a package with has beers and golf balls all in one. At retail, just buying the golf balls alone is about the same price of this package, so it is just like getting free beer. My buddy Brandon from Bridgestone explains the deal in the video below from the 2011 PGA Merchandise Show.
Man if I had dimples like this, I could have gotten a few more dates back in the day. The new e5, e6 and e7 Bridgestone golf balls have dimple in dimple technology which helps the aerodynamics of the golf ball. In the video below we learn about this new technology from Bridgestone Golf. Be sure to watch the end of the video, where I inserted a still image closeup of one of the new balls so you can see the dual dimples.
