Tiger and others skipping the 2006 Mercedes

Tiger is going to skip the season-opening Mercedes in Hawaii. Phil Mickelson hasn’t played at Kapalua since 2001. Retief Goosen and Padraig Harrington are also skipping it this year. Guess they don’t want to waste their time traveling to Hawaii to get beaten by Stewart Appleby who seems to shine in that tournament for some reason.

Come on Tiger, get with the program

Now call me a cynic if you want but I’m going to have to rant a bit here. The PGA Tour official season ended long ago (relatively). Players like Tiger and Phil have always talked about the season being too long and how they need rest, bla bla bla. Then why the freak is Tiger globe trotting all over the word playing more silly season events in a one month span than he plays in the same span on the regular tour? If the PGA Tour is so “tiring” why not “rest” instead of playing The Skins Game and all these other events so he can be “rested” by the time the 2006 season starts?

Watching Tiger in the Target tournament this week wasn’t exactly inspiring. You could tell he was not focusing and he was ready to shut it down for the year. Hey man, he’s getting old you know. His 30th birthday is this month. (congrats to Luke Donald by the way)
