Yesterday I had a serious time crunch. Since I’d had a tire blow out on the freeway en route to the USGA Amateur Publinks Championship. I was left with only 30 minutes of photo shooting time on my HOG World Tour stop at Rees Jones designed Victory Ranch Club. That may have been the most breathtaking 30 minutes ever, except for that time with the groupies from my old rock band. The skies were gray and light was flat, but I still managed to get a few decent shots of the course. I intend to get back during some better light for better shots and of course, a round of golf on this stunning track.
Victory Ranch Club is near Jordanelle Reservoir, about 20 minutes from Park City, Utah. From the highest point on the course, the 17th tee, you can see for miles in all directions. The shaping of these fairways, views, elevation chance and contrasts between the course and the landscape are amazing.

I had the pleasure of meeting Suzann Pettersen this past January at the PGA Show. Unfortunately at that time she was clothed. Nude photos of Scandinavia Suzann Pettersen are all over the web now, a taste of an upcoming ESPN Bodies feature where athletes pose nude. As you can see below, this professional female golfer has some serious game. She’s #6 in the world rankings right now, but #1 in my book…
I’ve added Suzann to the ever popular Golf Babes photo gallery, which also includes the likes of Natalie Gulbis, Blair O’Neal, Sandra Gal, Sophie Horn and Anna Rawson.
I love golf.
I’m happy to have finally added a gallery of photos of Soldier Hollow Golf Course in Midway, Utah. Midway, Utah is about a 15-20 minute drive from Park City, and around a 45 minute drive from Salt Lake City.
Looking down on both the Gold and Silver courses from the Gold course’s highest point. Click to zoom.
Soldier Hollow is the host of this week’s 87th United States Golf Association Amateur Public Links Championship. This “mountain links” course is actually a 36 hole facility but for the USGA Public Links Championship holes from both courses are used. The courses are the “Gold” and “Silver” courses, in honor of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, part of which took place right on property at Solder Hollow Resort. From the course you can see the cross country track. (more…)
On the 17th tee yesterday at the United States Golf Association’s Public Links Championship I overheard a player talking about his leg cramps. The course is extremely hilly. I know because I’ve been walking up and down it myself. The elevation change at Soldier Hollow makes Augusta National look like a flat Florida course.
The player was dying for a beverage and came up with a very descriptive quote for how thirsty he was:
“If I had it, I’d drink hot mustard right now.”
108 degrees at 5pm on the 18th tee. Click to zoom or see more images from the 2012 87th USGA Public Links Championship
Indeed conditions are tough here. The sign above shows the temp at 108 on the 18th tee at 5PM. I suspect that temp is a little on the high side, but even if it is off by 5-10 degrees it is still damn hot.
Ironic
At the end of the day yesterday I was heading into the media center to post some photos and do some writing. I caught this ironic combination of sign and temperature gauge on the wall. The temperature had dropped to a balmy 93 at around 6PM. (more…)
