Ernie Els’ swing looks good. No really.

ernie elsErnie Els, despite having a small gag fest on Sunday before the rain out at Bay Hill, won the Arnold Palmer Invitational. I watched a good portion of Ernie’s play and I must say his swing looks great. Now before you say “duh, his swing always looks great” hear me out.

Despite the fact that Ernie’s swing has always looked as smooth and buttery as any, right up there with Freddy Couples, his swing this year is even better. The thing I’ve noticed the most is the balance he has throughout the swing. His body is also in perfect positions, especially at impact. He’s delivering the club, especially his irons, perfectly at impact.

Already eclipsed 2009, by nearly a million bucks

Ernie now sits atop the FedEx Cup points list with two victories and over $3,000,000 in earnings. In the mere seven events he’s played this year he has already eclipsed what he earned last year playing 19 events.

Peaking at the right time

Ernie should be the favorite at the Masters next week based on his play so far, even over Tiger Woods. Tiger will no doubt be dealing with a lot of “firsts” next week.

Acushnet wins jury verdict in Callaway golf ball patent dispute

Acushnet (parent company of Titleist) has won a jury verdict against Callaway regarding four patents which Callaway owned related to the previous generation of Pro V1 golf balls. I wonder if this means Titleist will alter the next generation ball to utilize that technology again, now that they’ve been found not to be infringing on Callaway’s patents? I noticed quite a difference in the balls from the two different years, not in performance per se, but in the feel, durability and tackiness of the ball.

At the Salt Lake Golf Show this weekend I checked out the E.I. Sport Caddy Plus.  This is a system which mounts your golf push cart, golf bag, luggage and various other items to your Harley Davidson motorcycle.

If only they’d allow the Harley on the course….

Masters tickets available at Costco? WTF?

Written by: Tony Korologos | Thursday, March 25th, 2010

So I’m shopping today at Costco.  I’m picking up the usual stuff I get there like a case of toilet paper which will last me 4.27 years, a dual 750 pack of coffee filters, a three pound jar of Kalamata Olives and a 2.5 pound block of feta cheese. Like I said, the usual Costco stuff.  I most certainly was not picking up Kirkland organic peanut butter.

Then I see the word “Masters” out of the corner of my eye.  There, right next to the office supplies section (next to 20 packs of black ink for Epson ink jet printers to be exact), is a display selling Masters tickets.

$4999.99

For $5K you can get tickets to two days of the action, lodging and transportation to and from the tournament from the hotel.

I thought I’d seen everything possible at Coscto, but until today I apparently hadn’t.
