Flog Dogs – Coolest Golf Art I’ve Ever Seen

I’ve got a new friend. He brings me good golf karma. He’s a Jones Tribe Flog Dog.

Flog Dog Golf ArtWhat exactly is a Flog Dog?

Flog Dogs are golf statues representing one of four golf god tribes: Jones, Hogan, Palmer and Daly. The Flog Dogs are fashioned from six authentic retired railroad spikes from the Union Pacific Railroad. Each spike is cleaned, bent, welded and power coated. Total weight for a Flog Dog about six pounds.

Uses

Flog Dogs have many uses. First, I could see one being about the most unique golf trophy I could imagine. If you had one of the dogs with a black polished base, you could easily attach a plaque on it for your club champion or tournament winner.

I have my Flog Dog proudly positioned in my very special golf trophy case, where I have lots of special golf items. Simply functioning as a piece of art and a bringer of good karma for my game, Jonesey stands right next to my prized autographed 2005 British Open flag. Yes, that’s Jack Nicklaus’ autograph. I suppose the next Dog down the line could be a Jack Tribe…

Other uses listed on the Flog Dog web site include “golf bookends, golf door stops, paper weights, golf yard art, golf trophies or simply a friend to put in that special place, possibly even a flog boat anchor.”

Hey the Flog Dog staff has a sense of humor. That goes a long way with me. Read their history of the Flog Dog. It’s entertaining.

Flog Dog Jones Golf ArtOther offerings

Flog Dog also offers other golf items. They have men’s and women’s golf polo shirts, 100% pre-shrunk. I have a dark blue one and it’s very comfortable.

The Flog Dog web site lists accessories and custom Flogs as categories but they’re still building the content for those areas.

Take a peek in the “more” section and you can see some Flogs that are in development too. Cool stuff.

Critiques?

I have a couple of critiques for my new friends at Flog Dog. My first is their web site. If you go straight to http://www.flog-dog.com you have to sit through a terribly long flash intro. The intro took nearly one minute to play before it went to their main home page and there’s no “skip intro” button. That’s why the links at the top of my page go directly to http://www.flog-dog.com/index.html … There are a few broken links and some items on the site which don’t align properly too. There are also some content sections on the site which are empty. So a little web site work is needed.

My 2nd critique is on the black polished base my Jones came with. There’s a big screw that comes out of the foot of the statue and goes into the base. But there’s nothing to tighten down or bolt down the statue. You can pick up the statue and possibly have the base fall right off or even worse if you grabbed it by the base the statue might fall out. The fall wouldn’t damage the statue since it’s made of pure steel, but it may damage your floor or break your toes! It would be nice of they added a bolt to the bottom of the base or something to make it a solid attachment.

Flog Dog Golf ArtConclusion

My Flog Dog is one of the coolest golf items I have in my house. It’s so original and cool looking. I strongly recommend getting a Dog for yourself or to use for trophies in your golf tournaments!
