Firethorn Golf Apparel

Firethorn PoloTechnology has gone crazy over the last 10 years in the golf industry. Most of the technology focus is on golf clubs and golf balls. But I like where technology is taking fabrics used in golf apparel.

Case in point the Firethorn golf apparel line. The awesome looking deep blue polo I have has “Mercerized” cotton which is weaved in a kind of honeycomb pattern. With this pattern half the fabric touches your skin and the other half does not. This makes the shirt breathe very well. It also makes the shirt very comfortable.

What is “Mercerized”

Mercerized cotton is cotton that has been treated with sodium hydroxide to shrink it and increase its luster and affinity for dye. It is also mildew resistant and stronger.

Firethorn Fabric

Since the fabric is pre-shrunk before it’s even weaved, the shirts don’t shrink in the wash and they’re extremely durable. Even after many washes my polo still has a great, soft feel and the color hasn’t faded at all.

Firethorn is the official clothing supplier for the Canadian Tour. What’s that all a boot? Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Firethorn Polo

You can check out the Firethorn web site here. It looks to be fairly new as many of the links on the site say “coming soon.”

A note on the picture of the full polo. It looks like there are zig-zag patterns in the shirt but that is some kind of aliasing going on between the resolution of the photo and the weave pattern of the shirt.

It’s a moire pattern, not anti-aliasing (or aliasing, even). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moire_effect

How do the collars hold up after washing? I’m always on the hunt for collars that don’t roll up around the edges.
