OtterBox 3500 caseOtterBox is a very hip company which makes waterproof cases for iPhones, Blackberries, iPods, PDA’s, GPA’s, ammo, cigars and more. They also make generic cases for general use or storage of miscellaneous items. Today I’m covering the OtterBox 3500 waterproof case, which is in the general category.

3500 Overview

The OtterBox 3500 case is roughly 9x5x4 inches. It is made of super strong plastic which will protect the contents from being crushed, smashed, compromised etc. There are two heavy duty latches which close the case securely. The case is sealed with a rubber gasket and is air tight, providing protection from water, dust, dirt, insects, nuclear blasts etc. OK I threw in the nuclear blast comment as a joke but I wouldn’t be surprised if that was actually the case.

The case is not only waterproof, it is good to 100 feet below the surface of the water. This is useful for those times you’re taking your high tech gear, wallet, sunglasses, iPod, GPS, cell phone, ammunition, PDA, video camera etc, with you when you’re IN the water. The 3500 is a great case to protect just about any small items when you’re scuba diving, skiing, water skiing, river rafting or climbing Mount Everest.

The OtterBox 3500 floats too, allowing you to retrieve it when your kayak capsizes or you lose control of your golf cart and find yourself submerged in the lake between the 4th and 5th holes.

My applications

I use my 3500 to keep numerous iPods and audio/visual devices protected against the elements. I have many high end microphones and cameras I need to protect when I’m outside on a media related job, or just plain camping. Last week while camping at Arches National Park the winds were at 30-40 miles per hour. I put all of my electronic items and sunglasses in my 3500, which perfectly protected them from being sandblasted and from dust damage.

Conclusion

OtterBox is the undisputed king of over-designed, mega-engineered protection. And let’s face it, it’s always good to have protection. The $30 you spend on an OtterBox 3500 case will be a wise investment in protecting your highly valuable and sensitive items from the elements or from accidents.

I bought Otterbox products myself. I have 1 for my Ipod touch: http://www.otterbox.com/ipod-touch/ipod-touch-armor-case/. Great stuff, I even bring it along when I go swimming.

Is that green carpet at the hookedongolfblogoplex? Nice! Green’s the best carpet color, the automatic choice – no golfer would ever pick anything else but green for carpet…

Well, if they get to make that decision 🙂 🙂

  3. Very observant Eat. HOG World Headquarters does have some astroturf.
