Normally I dread fall and winter. But when I have an apparel piece as nice as this sitting here burning a hole in my psyche it’s a different story.

Say hello to the new Galvin Green Dash Jacket. I just tried it on. I may wear it the rest of the week, even though the temperatures here are still in the upper 90’s.

It may take a few weeks to put this beauty to the full fall test so stay tuned and I’ll get my review posted as soon as conditions allow.

High winds, cold air blowing off the water, heavy rains… welcome to Scotland golf on the shores of Lake Michigan in early fall.  The HOG World Tour stopped in at Bay Harbor Golf Club to play the Links Course and Quarry Course, each 9-holes.  Bay Harbor Golf Club is located in Bay Harbor, Michigan, very close to Petsoskey (see map below).

Golf holes near large bodies of water have a different look and feel to them. There are many holes at Bay Harbor which are right on the water.  Below is the par-3 eighth on the Quarry course, my 17th on the day. Stunning.

Below is the par-4 first hole on the Links course. See the ball furthest from the hole? That’s mine. Drained that one for birdie!

A few more pics below are from the very interesting Quarry course which was, you guessed it, build in an old cement quarry.

Quarry island green.

I’ll be posting a full review of the Links and Quarry courses soon.  Stay tuned.

Here’s the map below, showing Bay Harbor’s northerly location, and my current location (blue dot) in the Traverse City airport!

HOG World Tour Visits Michigan’s Boyne Highlands Heather Course

I had the great pleasure of playing The Heather course at Boyne Highlands in northern Michigan today. There wind there today would make Scotland proud, and it had its way with my game but I still loved the Robert Trent Jones Sr. layout.

The Heather Course features some of the most amazing, biggest green-side bunkers I’ve ever seen. Okay, they are the biggest I’ve ever seen.

Robert Trent Jones’s courses have such a great flow to them, including the Heather.  The conditions were also very wet, with heavy rains the night before. The pond below was flowing onto the fairway.

I’ve got to head out to the next stop here in northern Michigan. Stay tuned for my full review of the Heather soon.

HOG World Tour Visits Forest Dunes Weiskopf Course

Forest Dunes is a golf resort in northern Michigan you should definitely put on your golf bucket list. There are four courses on the property, if you count The Loop, which is a reversible course by Tom Doak. Yesterday morning I had the thill of taking on the Forest Dunes Weiskopf course and oh what a beauty she is. I would have made a blog post about this Tour stop sooner, but the resort is quite remote and there’s not much connectivity there. Plus, I spent most of my time there golfing, eating, and sleeping in between.

I can’t quite recall if I’ve played a Weiskopf course before this one, but I must take my HOG hat off and salute Tom for such a fantastic design. Tired and a bit jet lagged I still managed it around in 80 without losing a ball, and there are massive forest areas everywhere one can do that.

The greens were spectacular and terrifyingly fast. It took quite a bit of skill, patience and green reading to navigate them.

I’ll be posting a full review of the Forest Dunes Weiskopf course here in the near future. I’m still in northern Michigan on a golf press trip which will last another five days or so which isn’t giving me much time to write or process images. Stay tuned. Until then enjoy some Forest Dunes photos.

Below: panorama showing the 19th hole. Yes there is a 19th hole.

The BroBasket

Women get flowers and smelly stuff as gifts.  What do men get? Ties? Yuck. Now men can get a gift which they would like as much as women like smelly stuff and flower gifts, the BroBasket.  BroBasket you ask?  Yes.  I just got my first one.  It went something like this.

The mystery box above was on my doorstep and had the quote, “a special gift for you.”  I thought to myself, “oh goodie!”

The fun stuff inside the mystery box was a very cool combination of “bro” friendly items like wine, whiskey rocks, golf balls, golf accessories, and a reusable basket to put other bro stuff in.

The wine came at a perfect time.  I cracked it open right away while putting together the inventory of my take in my first BroBasket.

My basket is “The Mini Golfer” basket.  What’s cool about BroBaskets is they can be customized to fit the the bro’s personality. I’m a wine guy. My basket featured a nice California cab, which I’m enjoying right at this moment (it is 7:58PM).  One can configure the spirit portion of the basket by picking from one of five wines, or a selection of brandy, gin, liqueurs, mixed drink packages, rum, scotch, tequila, vodka or whiskey. This cab is great. Cheers.

Other items can be added, pardon me, “configured,” to the basket such as glasses, accessories, and snacks.

Conclusion

BroBasket makes many different themed men’s gifts from the golf one I’ve featured here to others including spirits, corporate themes, holidays, and every other imaginable reason one might wish to give a man a gift.

Stop giving ties or gloves to your man and give him a gift he really wants and will most definitely use, one from BroBasket.
