Kentucky Royalty Surino Golf Socks – Alpaca Powered

It is a perfect time right now to talk about the new Kentucky Royalty Surino Golf Socks.  Kentucky Royalty is a company founded by Shawn and Lori Malloy.  They’re based out of, well, Kentucky.

Alpaca

I’m fascinated by alpacas.  Very odd creatures.  They look like a three way cross between sheep, giraffes and camels.

The Surino golf socks are made from rare Suri Alpaca, fine Merino wool.  The alpaca fleece comes from USA farms and is spun in American mills.  So if you want to go “made in the USA” with your golf socks here you go.

Features

The best side of the sock, the inside, is lined with soft Suri alpaca wool.  Very soft and comfortable.  The thick wool provides high comfort and temperature control, while also controlling moisture.

The bottom of the sock is covered in skid resistant nylon to prevent slipping and blisters.

Fore!

Just read a piece in the USA Today (not that I read that publication much) which talked about Callaway’s new direction in marketing.  They’ve brought on a new agency (Factory Design Labs) and also Justin Timberlake to consult with them.

“Looking to pump up sales and promote its two new products for 2012— the RAZR Fit driver and the Hex Black Tour golf ball — Callaway Golf is pumping up the volume in a game long known for its tranquility. Callaway hired marketing agency Factory Design Labs, who came up with the concept to take golf to a place it has never been – the neon-induced, over-the-top, volume-busting Las Vegas Strip. Factory Design then got in touch with Kahn and Justin Timberlake, the multiple Emmy and Grammy Award-winning actor, musician and avid golfer, to collaborate on a campaign that is as unique as it is eye-catching.”

The result is a campaign which is going to start toward the end of January which features Phil Mickelson and other Callaway players hitting shots on the Las Vegas strip with volcanoes erupting and pyrotechnics exploding.  Sounds fun.  I’d like to try that.  I’m not really a Justin Timberlake fan so I guess I’m not the demographic they’re going for, even though my demographic is the one with the money to spend.

It will be interesting to see what they do and how successful the campaign is.

PING Scottsdale ZB S Putter - cilck to magnify

Welcome to the 3rd installment of my 2011 PING Scottsdale putter review series.  To date I’ve covered the PING Scottsdale Shea and the Scottsdale Senita putters, as well as the related iPING putter App.  Today’s putter is the new PING Scottsdale ZB S Putter.

PING Scottsdale ZB S Putter Overview

The new ZB S is a conventional blade putter with a simple and clean design.  The putter has a dark matte finish on the top and a black shiny chrome finish on the bottom, as do the other Scottsdale putter models.  The look is very sharp and the matte finish prevents glare. (more…)

HOG Holiday Golf Gift Guide – Part Three – Odds and ends plus the ULTIMATE golf gift

I can’t resist doing one more post in the very popular Hooked On Golf Blog Holiday Golf Gift Guide Series.  Part one of the holiday golf gift guide covered golf accessories, golf apparel and golf training aids.  Part two covered golf clubs and golf balls.  I have a few more random golf gift ideas to suggest not in those categories so here we go.

Golf Buddy GPS

Golf GPS and/or Laser

Golfers would love to find a golf GPS or laser rangefinder in their Christmas stocking.  My GPS suggestion would be the Golf Buddy Platinum World GPS, which has every feature imaginable.

GPS’s are cool, but I’m more of a “laser” guy.  For years I used the Bushnell Tour V2 with “pinseeker” technology.  I’ve recently switched to a Callaway laser rangefinder by Nikon, but have yet to post a review on that one.

Prazza Golf Ball Locator

Golf Ball Location System

If a golf GPS or laser isn’t high tech enough, a cool golf gift idea is the Prazza micro-chipped electronic golf ball location system.  This is a system in which golf balls have battery powered transmitters which communicate with a locator unit.  The locator guides you to what would have been your lost ball.  How great is giving the gift of never losing a golf ball again?

Round of golf at a killer course

Here’s a great gift idea for a golfer.  Buy that golfer a round of golf at an awesome course!  If you aren’t sure what courses to pick from, check out the Hooked On Golf Blog course reviews.  My top two public course selections would be Black Mesa in New Mexico and Sand Hollow in southern Utah.  If you really want to blow them away, buy them a round of golf at the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course in Florida.

Lessons with a PGA Pro

Golf is hard.  Gear is great, but all the best gear in the world won’t help somebody who needs swing help.  A fantastic golf gift idea is to give a lesson or set of lessons from a PGA pro at your local course.

TaylorMade Performance LabSwing Analysis

Along with a lesson, or just by itself, you could give a swing analysis as a golf gift.  See if you have a golf lab in town which does such a thing.  Locally I found the TaylorMade Performance Lab to be fantastic, though the end goal is ultimately to sell you their gear.

St. Andrews, Scotland

The ULTIMATE golf gift - A trip to St. Andrews

The ULTIMATE Golf Gift

For my final golf gift suggestion I’m throwing out the budget.  Assuming you have somewhere between $3,000-$10,000 as a budget, I’m suggesting that the best gift you could EVER give a golfer is a golf trip to St. Andrews, Scotland.  The memories your lucky gift recipient will have will last a lifetime.  I’d suggest at least five days and if you can manage, make it 10.

Anyone who feels so inclined to give me the ULTIMATE golf gift will be forever on my Christmas card list…
