David Poole is a pal of mine. He’s with Golfdotz, a company which makes cool transfers for golf balls and now even golf shoes. Golfdotz, as seen here in this photo, are a much more fun and unique way of marking your balls. I prefer the skull and cross bones myself.
Two weeks ago at the biggest amateur tourney in the state, here’s the conversation from the first tee with me and 3 other players.
Player 1: “I’m playing a Titleist #2 with a blue dot”
Player 2: “I’m playing a Bridgestone 330 with a red line”
Player 3: “I’m playing a Titleist #1 with three black dots”
Me: “I’m playing a Titleist #3 with a black skull on it”
Little did I know that I was apparently playing ball which may have been illegal with the black skull Golfdotz on it. Now that isn’t the case as the USGA has approved Golfdots for use in competition.
Golfdotz are also a prize provided by my buddy David for the HOG Space Fantasy Golf 2009 season.

Yesterday I met with my new friend Doug from “MySack.” MySack is a golf ball/tee bag you can hang from your golf bag. The bag looks like, well, a guy’s ball sack.
Not only does MySack look like a ball sack… it comes with two balls in it! Bonus! Ya gotta hand it to Doug for having the balls to “sack up” and try to make a golf product like this fly. I wish him luck.
The MySack could be a good ice breaker for that nervous first golf date you are on. I could definitely see this unit as a good giveaway or tee prize for corporate tournaments, embroidered with a Hooters logoo etc…
I just installed my MySack yesterday. I’ll be evaluating MySack, and putting MySack to the test for a review soon.
If you just gotta have one now, click here.

A couple of posts ago I did my 2009 Titelist Pro V1x review. I mentioned that I got a surprising amount of spin for the ball more touted for distance.
Yesterday I played my first full round with the new Pro V1 (not the x). I call this one Pro V1 regular flavor.
I was quite blown away by the distance I had with this rendition of the V1. I found myself on the par-4 1st hole closer to the green than I’d ever been off the tee. I was 66 yards to a back pin and the hole is 393. If a back pin is +10 yards that makes it about a 340 yard drive.
So my first impression of the new Pro V1 regular flavor, is that it is plenty long. Possibly even longer for me than the X. Is that right? I get more spin from the X and more distance from the regular flavor? WTF? Did Titleist accidentally label the two models backwards? Perhaps the regular flavor is a bit softer than the X, and allows me to compress it more.

Some reviews I really want to take my time and play a whole bunch of golf before I write them. This is the case with the new Titleist Pro V1x. I’ve played roughly my last 10 rounds or so with the new Pro V1x, enough rounds to experience the ups and downs of my normal game. For the last couple of weeks it has been ups, which doesn’t suck.
Technology
The new ProV1x has had some changes under the hood. It is no secret that Titleist had to change the ProV1 series due to their losing a court battle with Callaway over the way the ball is made.
Four pieces/layers
The Pro V1x is a four piece/layer ball. The first layer, in the center of the ball is called the inner core. The inner core is 1″ in diameter and made of a material called Polybutadiene. Polybutadiene is a highly durable synthetic rubber commonly used for tires or coating electronic assemblies.
The 2nd layer is the outer core. The outer core is 1.55″ in diameter and also made of Polybutadiene.
Left: Cores – Center: Dimples and parting line – Right: Casing
Layer three is called the casing. The casing is .035″ of ionomer, a highly durable plastic/rubber.
The fourth layer (are we done with layers yet?) is a urethane elastomer, .03″ thick.
Why all the layers? What do they do?

I’m looking forward to today. I’m playing one of my favorite courses (one of my three “home” courses) with my best golf buddy. Marius from the new golf accessory compnay Sumi-g will be joining us too. I’m also looking forward to putting on decent greens since the ones I’ve been putting on home course #1 really suck.
Today will mark the final round of about 10 that I’ve been playing with the new Titleist ProV1x. I’ve been waiting to write my review of the new ProV1x so I could give an honest evaluation of how the thing putts on good greens.

This isn’t an April fool’s joke.
Greg Norman has inked a deal with TaylorMade. The Shark will play the TP Red golf ball (which he played in that great performance at the (British) Open last year, TaylorMade golf clubs, TM staff bag and a TM logo on the side of his hat. Yes the side. There’s NO way the Shark would let his Shark logo play 2nd fiddle to any other.
What about MacGregor?
Not sure what the ramifications are with this deal and Greg’s relationship/investment in MacGregor Golf, which is still sporting Greg’s photos on their home page.
Norman video on the switch, The Masters
In this nine minute video, Norman explains his decision to switch to TaylorMade. He also mentions playing golf at The Masters this year. He says the length of Augusta National makes Beth Page Black look like a pitch-and-putt course.

Finally the snow has melted and I can get back to doing one thing I love to do, GOLF! Now that my golf schedule is up and running (unless it snows again), I’ve got two new pieces of gear I’m currently working on upcoming reviews.
New ProV1x
I’ve played a couple of rounds now with the new Titleist ProV1x. My first round was in Orlando in January, when I was pretty rusty. My 2nd was a couple of days ago when I played solid yet still had my clock cleaned by my pals. So far I like the new ProV1x a lot. It isn’t as hard as previous models so my granny 100mph swing can compress it. The ball’s surface is definitely different than previous models. More to come.
Rife IBF Tour Aussie Black Putter
My pals at Rife Putters have been very cool to sponsor this year’s HOG Space Fantasy league with a putter as a prize. I’ve got two Rife putters in my review queue, the first being the very nice IBF Tour Aussie Black. I played my first round with this one a couple of days ago and when I made the right adjustments in my stance and stroke, I started dropping bombs from all over the place. Stay tuned.

Is there such a thing as love at first sight with golf balls? OOOHH la la! Her measurements are 340-325-335.. No those aren’t the measurements a severely overweight coed golfer. Those are some of the drive lengths I achieved when I put the new Bridgestone B330RX into play for the first time.
My local pro shop is sold out of B330-RX’s. They’re flying off the shelves. The word is out that this ball is freakin’ awesome.
Technology
The B330RX is a multi-layer (3) golf ball optimized for amateur players with a swing speed less than 105 MPH. That is me, less than 105. Freddy Couples on the other hand, is around 118 MPH. Tiger? 125. So the B330-RX would NOT be the right ball for them.

I’ve just gotten back to HOG world headquarters after a long day. It is 12:20am local time, but my body clock thinks it is 2:20am due to flying over two time zones. I’m going to hit the sack and dream about all the golf gadgets and clubs I saw at the PGA Show.
I’m not done with my PGA Show posts. I’ve got a bunch more videos and info coming up so stay tuned.
