I’m writing this review on my MacBook while in line at the DMV to get my driver’s license renewed. There’s nothing more thilling than seeing that you’re #510 in line and they just called "now serving #137 at window 13."
This is the 3rd and final post in my series on Tattoo Golf head covers. I previously coverered the TG mallet and blade putter covers. Today I’m covering the Tattoo Golf driver cover.
It’s always good to have protection
Golf gear isn’t cheap. Drivers cost $200-$800, with some very high end models costing even more. The covers many of the drivers come with are adequate, but if you’re going to spend $500 on a piece of gear, why not upgrade the cover and protect that investment?
FootJoy now has a cool site where you can “build” your own custom set of shoes, called “MyJoys.” To build your shoes, go to http://www.myjoys.com and start building them with their “customizer.”
Golf Shoes
You can choose from many different styles of shoes, men’s and women’s golf shoes. Men’s shoes include the DryJoys PRO, DryJoys Tech, Contour, DryJoys Spikeless and DryJoys PODS. The available women’s shoes are the DryJoys Women’s, Spikeless DryJoys Women’s and the Women’s Contours.
OGIO is a great friend of Hooked On Golf Blog and The Golf Space. I’ve reviewed many OGIO items and it’s no new news that OGIO is my favorite company.
My friends at OGIO asked me to come and check out their facility. I jumped at this great opportunity, literally and figuratively.
A little OGIO history
Most of us golfers probably think OGIO makes golf bags and accessories and that’s it. Not the case. In fact, OGIO didn’t even start out making golf gear. They started out making bags and accessories for much more extreme sports like motocross, snowboarding, skateboarding, BMX etc. They’re currently a huge market leader in those areas. Later OGIO did begin making golf bags as an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) for the likes of Callaway. The Callaway relationship is not good now. Though there are some companies out there who’s bags are OEMed by OGIO, OGIO’s focus is on their own brand now.
OGIO research & design
More brain cells per square inch
OGIO has two large buildings. In the first building can be found their top secret research and design center. This is where amazing technological breakthroughs occur on a daily basis. Amazing inventions like the Shling, the Woode and other soon to be announced industry revolutions are born here. Inside the R&D center there are more brain cells per square inch than you’ll find in a high end Ivy League physics class.
Brain cells are only part of the equation though. Somehow the OGIO developers manage to work elegance, simplicity and superb functionality into their products. It must be the coffee they drink. That’s the only thing I can think of. When nobody was looking I snagged some of the OGIO R&D team’s used coffee grinds and I’ve submitted them to a lab for testing. The secret may lie in those results.
In the video below, my buddy Rocky Harris guides us through the OGIO design process:
Tattoo Golf is a friend of Hooked On Golf Blog and The Golf Space. I’m a big fan of their “aggressive” line of golf items, from apparel to accessories. I have a ton of Tattoo Golf shirts, towels, tees and head covers. I recently reviewed the Tattoo Golf Mallet Putter Cover. Now that I’m the midst of doing a product review on the MacGregor Face-Off putter, this also gave me the chance to evaluate the Tattoo Golf Blade Putter Cover.
It is always good to have protection
Ping Zing, Scotty Cameron, MacGregor/Bobby Grace, TaylorMade, Nicklaus Golf. $200, $300, $500… There are many blade putters out there which are beautiful instruments and cost a small fortune. Being that the putter is your most used club, it can be victim to the most dings and scratches. It’s a wise choice to have protection for that investment and even more wise to use the best protection out there, a Tattoo Golf putter cover. For $15, this cover is a no-brainer.
In the spirit of Harley Davidsons, Hell’s Angels and Rock & Roll, the Tattoo putter covers are made with black leather and naturally sport the very cool Tattoo Golf “skull and golf club bones” logo.
The opening of the cover has two magnetic sides which keep the cover on the club securely but still allow for easy placement and removal. I prefer magnetic versus Velcro because over time the Velcro wears out.
The inside of the cover is a nice, soft, plush fabric. It’s almost like velvet or furry on the inside.
On the course
The cover is stylish on the course, especially when I play my weekly round up at the snooty country club. In fact I love sporting all my Tattoo Golf gear up there. I get the funniest looks when I roll in with a golf shirt which meets the dress code yet has a huge skull on it.
The cover is well built and durable and despite how beefy it is, easy to open up and insert or remove the putter. There’s even a hole in the cover meant for mounting a towel hook. That’s nice for those who like to bring a towel to the green to wash their balls. In fact, for about another $5.00 there’s a package you can purchase which comes with a small towel. And yes, of course, the towel does have the Tattoo Golf logo on it.
Great protection and clean balls for about $20!
Both of my Tattoo Golf putter covers are way better than the original covers my putters came with. Plus they’re just plain fun. The Tattoo Golf blade putter cover is a great form of protection, and you don’t want to cut any corners in that department. The cover/towel combo provides great protection and clean balls! Man what a deal!
Summer is coming up, or at least that’s a rumor I heard here a couple of days ago during the latest snow storm. If summer does ever arrive, it may be a good idea to make sure you have enough cold beverages on the course. Many golf bags these days have a water bottle holder, but that may not be enough.
Golfing Caddy Overview
The Golfing Caddy is an extra beverage holder for golfers made by BVT Products, which can hold up to a 24oz bottle. The Golfing Caddy can be attached to your golf bag or cart via a very strong 1 1/2″ metal clip, similar to the clips you find mountain climbers using to attach their ropes and climbing gear. The GC also has a wrist strap if you wish to go for a walk without your golf bag but still bring along your insulated beverage. There’s an included water bottle cooler sleeve to keep the beverage insulated when not inside the caddy.
Pockets
Along with the main insulated beverage pocket, there are two other pockets. The front pocket has a Velcro flap which seals your car keys, wallet, cash or other valuables. The rear pocket is a little bigger and has an elastic, pleated opening. This pouch is well suited to hold sundglasses, cell phones (ringer off on the course, of course) etc.
Key Clip & Great Towel
To round off the “extras” one gets with the Golfing Caddy, there is a key clip and golf towel included. The key clip is a great place to put your keys. I’m always digging around the 87 pockets in my golf bag looking for my keys. With them clamped to the GC’s clip, my keys are easy to find.
The GC comes with an extremely nice golf towel which they say is good for wiping your golf ball. This towel is so soft and plush, because it is made from microfibers. For me, I prefer to keep this towel away from the dirt of cleaning golf balls or clubs, and use it for cleaning my sunglasses.
Photos
I have more photos of the Golfing Caddy in the Hooked On Golf Blog BVT Products Gallery.
Conclusion
The Golfing Caddy is a great extra beverage holder for golf bags, golf carts, or just plain toting around when walking or jogging. Along with keeping your beverages nice and cool in the summer heat, the extra pockets and great golf towel are great to have on the course.
If you have a mother or father who golfs, the Golfing Caddy would be a great Mother’s Day or Father’s Day gift.
There have been many large golf companies jumping on the golf blogwagon. Quite frankly, most if not all of them have been failures. All they ended up being was a rehash of their current advertisements, press releases and another outlet for their corporate double talk.
FootJoy has entered the blogosphere at http://www.footjoyblog.com and I’ve been personally told they won’t make the same mistakes other large golf companies have when running their blog. They promise to give some real blog-like perspective, rather than simply spewing out the same old boring corporate lines and press releases.
Is the FootJoy blog a real blog?
Test #1: Blogroll One of the first things I look for in a “blog” is whether or not they have a “blogroll.” A blogroll is a set of links to other blogs or sites. The corporate sites I’ve been critical of in the past have never really had a “blogroll” because they weren’t willing to take their chances legally, or support other sites which may have ads, links, or promotion for their competition.
I don’t know where my pop finds stuff sometimes. Here is another one for the list which he gave me as a gift. This is the Dorson Sports golf themed “Chip ‘n’ Dip” bowl. The main bowl is shaped like a golf ball and the dip/sauce bowl is shaped like a golf tee.
I had my first chance to use my Chip ‘n’ Dip bowl a couple of nights ago as I hosted a birthday party for my daughter Allie. The bowl is huge. I filled it all the way to the top and by the end of the party it was only half way gone. With a standard chip bowl I usually have to fill the thing up 3-4 times. I had to refill the tee dip bowl a couple of times though.
I googled Dorson sports and couldn’t find much of anything. So I have no idea where to get one or how much one is…
One of my all time favorite golf companies is Tattoo Golf. Tattoo Golf makes “aggressive” golf products, most of which have the awesome skull and golf club cross bones on them.
Tattoo Golf is now branching into some new golf product categories. Add head covers to the list.
I’ve had the pleasure of using my Tattoo Golf mallet putter cover now for about 20 rounds. The cover is made of black leather (what else would it be?), and has an awesome magnetic opening which firmly seals 100% around my putter head. I was worried that my Elite Sport Dead On putter’s odd large size would be a problem but it wasn’t.
