Puerto Los Cabos Golf Club is the 2nd of my two golf course reviews from my recent HOG World Tour stop in Los Cabos, Mexico.
I had a terrific time in the warm and sunny conditions of Los Cabos, knowing my golf pals back home where staring out their windows praying for the snow to melt.
Puerto Los Cabos Overview
Puerto Los Cabos (PLC) is currently an 18 hole course, located a short drive from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. I said “currently an 18 hole course” because the plan is to expand to 36 holes. The current nines are each one half of their respective future 18 hole tracks, and play as an 18 hole course.
Mission and Marina Nines
The front nine is called the Mission Course and is a Greg Norman signature course. The back nine is called the Marina Course and is a Jack Nicklaus signature course. I’ll be referring to them as the Norman and Nicklaus nines.
The two nines are definitely different, as different as the games which their famous architects had in their prime. I’ll try to spell out the differences in the “tee, fairway, approach, green” sections below. And who wins? Can Norman top Nicklaus?

In calendar year 2009 the last round I played was December 6. The next time I’d tee it up after that would be the Sunday after the PGA Show at the end of January.
After returning from my media trip to Los Cabos, I was pleasantly surprised to see that about 75% of the snow had melted, and that 80% of my home course was green.
Today I took out some gear to review, and managed to team up with my regular group at River Oaks to play 18 holes. The course was in surprisingly good condition and I made some long putts with two white putters I was evaluating. One putt was 60 feet (and worth several skins).
The temps this coming week will be above freezing, and even one day is supposed to hit 49. In December around here 49 is a heat wave. I hope to get a few more rounds in before Christmas. Good thing too, because I have a lot of gear in my review queue to get to.
Could you stand idly by and watch your friend be the victim of theft? I can’t.
I have a friend and fellow golf blogger named John Duval and his site is called Into The Grain. I had the pleasure of meeting and even playing golf with John in Orlando earlier this year. John wrote a nice article with 10 pointers on playing winter golf back in January 2010. There are some great pieces of advice in there which will really help golfers deal with golfing in the winter.
Apparently Tallahasse.com’s Becky Sauers liked John’s piece so much, she decided copy and paste it into an article and call it her own. She made a couple of small changes to John’s work, like changing the words “ski parka” to “big heavy jacket” and such. That way she must have thought nobody would notice that she was stealing someone’s work. Of course she gave no credit to John and had no permission from John to use his material.
The biggest no-no in journalism is plagiarism or stealing material. Where I come from we string up people who do that and stone them. Then we take them to Detroit to be tortured.

Becky Sauers’ next move needs to be removing that piece from Tallahassee.com’s web site, and then posting a public apology and admission that she stole someone’s content.
Man up Becky. Golf is an honorable game. We call penalties on ourselves. We’re waiting.
Fortune Brands is going to split into three units and sell off its golf and home products units, keeping its most profitable division which is in the alcohol realm (Jim Beam).
Fortune’s golf unit would include anything under the Acushnet umbrella, Titleist, Footjoy, Pinnacle etc. Cobra has already been sold off to Puma.
This essentially means that golf’s biggest brand will have one of those WalMart happy face stickers and be up for sale to the highest bidder.
“While the breadth and balance of our portfolio have served shareholders very well, we see the potential for even greater value by separating our businesses into focused companies,” ~ Chief Executive Bruce Carbonari.
So, I’ve just gone through my wallet. I managed to gather up $19.60. I’m willing to throw that in the pot. What do you say we pass around a golf hat and see if we can come up with enough dough to make the purchase? I think that would mean we could get a great deal on, or perhaps even scam some free ProV1’s…
Ok it is that time of year my friends. It is the time of year where we discuss where we would like to call home for the 2011 fantasy golf season. I’d like to hear your suggestions below.
Let me tell you why we are where we are now:
We used yahoo for a few years. I have a small connection at yahoo and they were cool enough to expand the league sizes from 50 to 100 players. But we routinely have around 200 competitors so that still meant we had to have two leagues. Remember “HOG Space 1” and “HOG Space 2?” This made doing the results and figuring out winners even more difficult than it already was.
So last year we went to Kerplookee. The good thing about Kerplookee is that there was no league size limit. That meant all the standings and results etc were in one place, easy to find and display. Kerplookee is not without its issues, some which I complained about all year but they were not fixed. While irritating these may not be deal breakers as those are less of issues to me than having the league split into two groups.
I’m open to suggestions. But if you suggest a league there are a few requirements I’d like to meet:
1. The provider can occupy ONE group and not have to be split up.
2. The provider is FREE.
3. The provider is TGS and HOG friendly.
4. The provider doesn’t suck.
5. The provider’s sole purpose is not to suck you into their site with a free game only to pressure and solicit you into joining their “pay” game.
