Three million hits in April

April is not quite over yet and HOG is at 3,000,000 hits. The only reason I know this is because the site exceeded the largest bandwidth limitation it has ever had, and was temporarily shut down. Fortunately I caught it about 20 minutes after the shutdown. The daily average for April is at 95,000 hits.

I occasionally look for search terms which are “hot” to see what people are looking for and what brings them here. Can you believe that in April of 2008, 197 people found the site by typing in “Natalie Gublis” rather then the correct spelling “Gulbis?” I must have spelled her name wrong at some point and other people are finding that keyword!

Golf marathon, short game, FaceOff putter

The golf marathon continues

Yesterday the weather was the best of the year.  My home course is usually extremely windy, but it was completely calm.  I played 27 holes for the 5th day of my 7 day golf marathon.  My friend "GolfUtah" kicked everyone's butt with some long putting bombs.

Today the marathon will continue with my Tuesday men's club tournament.  It should be very interesting today, because we're only allowed to play with THREE clubs.

Short game work

I spent some very needed practice time on the chipping green yesterday before my round.  I didn't necessarily fix anything yet, but I'm working on it.  My short game has been so bad lately that missing a green for me right now is almost a guaranteed bogey.

The PGA Tour average for scrambling (getting up and down when missing a green) is 58.06%  and Tiger Woods' scrambling percentate is an amazing 74.03%.  Mine?  On my last good round, a 70, I had 1/4 saves or 25%.  My scores could be WAY lower if my short game improved.  That is the goal.

New putter in the bag

I consider putting to be the best part of my game.  I don't switch putters very often but recently I've put the new MacGregor Face-Off putter  in my bag.  I'm in the midst of evaluating it for a product review.  I'll be posing my FaceOff review in the next 2-3 weeks.

Not sure if this putter switch is permanent because I really love my Elite Sport Dead On putter.

Golfing Caddy Beverage Holder

golfing caddy beverage holderSummer is coming up, or at least that’s a rumor I heard here a couple of days ago during the latest snow storm. If summer does ever arrive, it may be a good idea to make sure you have enough cold beverages on the course. Many golf bags these days have a water bottle holder, but that may not be enough.

Golfing Caddy Overview

The Golfing Caddy is an extra beverage holder for golfers made by BVT Products, which can hold up to a 24oz bottle. The Golfing Caddy can be attached to your golf bag or cart via a very strong 1 1/2″ metal clip, similar to the clips you find mountain climbers using to attach their ropes and climbing gear. The GC also has a wrist strap if you wish to go for a walk without your golf bag but still bring along your insulated beverage. There’s an included water bottle cooler sleeve to keep the beverage insulated when not inside the caddy.

Pockets

Along with the main insulated beverage pocket, there are two other pockets. The front pocket has a Velcro flap which seals your car keys, wallet, cash or other valuables. The rear pocket is a little bigger and has an elastic, pleated opening. This pouch is well suited to hold sundglasses, cell phones (ringer off on the course, of course) etc.

Key Clip & Great Towel

To round off the “extras” one gets with the Golfing Caddy, there is a key clip and golf towel included. The key clip is a great place to put your keys. I’m always digging around the 87 pockets in my golf bag looking for my keys. With them clamped to the GC’s clip, my keys are easy to find.

The GC comes with an extremely nice golf towel which they say is good for wiping your golf ball. This towel is so soft and plush, because it is made from microfibers. For me, I prefer to keep this towel away from the dirt of cleaning golf balls or clubs, and use it for cleaning my sunglasses.

Photos

I have more photos of the Golfing Caddy in the Hooked On Golf Blog BVT Products Gallery.

Conclusion

The Golfing Caddy is a great extra beverage holder for golf bags, golf carts, or just plain toting around when walking or jogging. Along with keeping your beverages nice and cool in the summer heat, the extra pockets and great golf towel are great to have on the course.

If you have a mother or father who golfs, the Golfing Caddy would be a great Mother’s Day or Father’s Day gift.

Cart Boy 101

I’m lucky enough to regularly play at the nicest country club in the state, courtesy of my pop who is a member. This course is Utah’s version of Augusta National. The facilities are top notch and the 27 hole course is spectacular.

Yesterday I played there and had something happen which I’ve experienced at many clubs which have a “cart boy.” I have a golf towel and my Frogger Brush Pro (the best golf club brush on Earth) hanging from my bag. On the first hole I go to use my brush to clean my wedge, and I can’t get to it. I can’t get to my towel either.

cart boy 101 golf towel

The cart boy has put the cart strap on tightly over the towel and the brush and both items are behind the bag. He’s also managed to wrap the brush’s cable which attaches the brush to the bag, around the stand legs 3-4 times. WTF? So in the middle of the first fairway I had to completely take my bag off the cart and replace it, in order to have my bag accessories….accessible.

Memo to cart boys (or girls): Put the cart strap UNDER the bag accessories.

Annika back in the winner’s circle

I’m glad that Annika Sorenstam got herself back in the winner’s circle today. She defeated Paula Creamer on the first hole of a playoff at the Stanford International Pro-Am. That marks victory #71.

All due respect to Lorena Ochoa, Annika is still #1 in my book.

Tiger knee update

Tiger Woods is now off the crutches and wearing a knee brace. He hopes to start rehabbing soon, but has no definite date scheduled for him to return to competition.

Apparently Tiger has been playing in pain and knew he’d have the knee surgery for a couple of months. He was going to have the surgery after Augusta whether or not he won at The Masters. Tiger did not attribute his loss at The Masters to his knee:

“I’ve definitely been playing in pain, but that’s not why I didn’t win at Augusta.”

An interesting thing about golf is that no matter how badly you play; it is always possible to get worse.
