Arnold Palmer comment about Tiger tying his record

January 30th, 2008

There’s a nice and lengthy video interview with Arnold Palmer at Tiger Golf Channel’s web site. Of course, Arnold is very gracious and well spoken about Tiger tying his record. The great last line of the interview made me laugh though…

“He’s doing so well there isn’t a hell of a lot you can say about it.”

Ian Poulter think he’s the only potential threat to Tiger Woods

January 30th, 2008

Here’s a quote from Ian Poulter in the upcoming issue of Golf World:

“…I haven’t played to my full potential yet. And when that happens it will just be me and Tiger.”

Hmm… OK. I know golfers need to talk and feel confident. I know the press and the public would love to see someone challenge Tiger. But the only way Ian Poulter can compete with Tiger Woods is in an apparel contest.

And what about Poulter’s fellow golf pros? Is he not calling them all out as well, saying none of them can challenge Tiger?

King Golf Royal T – Perfect for the 19th hole

January 29th, 2008

king golf royal t shirtKing Golf makes a handful of products for the golf world from ball warmers to apparel. Today I’m covering the King Golf “Royal T” t-shirt. It’s hard to write a 1500 word review on a t-shirt so I’m not going to try.

Style & Design

The King Golf Royal T is made from premium blended cotton. It has a large KG logo on the front and a small on below the collar on the back. The design is a “fashion fit – European Cut.” I don’t know what that means really. To me that means it has a small collar and small sleeve edges!

HOG was down for a bit

January 29th, 2008

If you checked in this morning you may have found a “bandwidth exceeded” message here. HOG’s bandwidth usage just hit an all time high this month. While that may seem like a bad thing, it’s actually a good thing. What it means is that HOG is generating more and more traffic. All I had to do was increase my bandwidth on my server so no big deal.

Global warming is a farce. Al Gore can kiss my lob wedge.

January 28th, 2008

I just snowblowed the driveway, again. It’s been a freaking blizzard here today. There are snow drifts in my yard and my windows are covered with snow and ice. The HIGH for the next 1.5 weeks isn’t even supposed to get to “freezing.”

Last year I used my snowblower once. This year I’ve used it at least 10 times. The Alta ski resort got over 100 inches of snow in the first 2.5 weeks of January. That put them up to about 400 inches on the year.

It’s freaking Antarctica. Al Gore should move here. His global warming farce would be clarified instantly…

Sincerely,

Tiger laps the field at Torrey Pines and ties Arnold Palmer’s win record

January 28th, 2008

Tiger Woods was so far ahead in yesterdays round, 10 strokes most of the day, he actually lost focus a bit on the back nine. Despite three bogeys in a row on the back Tiger still won easily and tied Arnold Palmer’s all time winning record at 62. Tiger is now tied for 4th all time, only two wins behind Ben Hogan. Tiger hit some shots yesterday which had me rolling back my DVR multiple times.

The Bet

A golf pal of mine called me after one shot Tiger hit yesterday. Tiger was 53 yards out with a tail wind. He hit a low wedge which bounced past the pin and spun back to about two feet below the hole and short of the pin. My friend told me there was nobody else on tour he sees hit shots like that. I told him I thought with the conditions, that shot wasn’t as impossible as he thought. I told him that I could hit a similar shot under the conditions of wet/soft greens, a spin ball and perfect grooves on my 60 degree wedge. We won’t settle that bet until the snow melts here though.

Other amazing shots even hat Tiger almost embarrassed. He could hardly hold back his laughter after he sunk a 50 foot put with about 20 feet of break. He was putting across a tier which he had to go up, across the top and back down. The putt was similar to the “better than most” put only much more break.

At Peace

The main thing I seem to be seeing in Tiger is that he’s so relaxed. I think he’s “at peace” with himself. I think with time healing a bit of his father’s death and now having a new child, Tiger is really adjusted and content. Who wouldn’t be I suppose. The scary thing is that Tiger and all the people in the know in the golf world are seeing the possibility of Tiger’s best year ever. It’s hard to believe he could get better but that may just be the case.

At the pace he’s at, Tiger will overtake Ben Hogan in the next couple of months and should catch Jack Nickaus’ all time win record in the next 1.5-2 years. I feel pretty lucky as a golf fan because I got to see the 2nd half of Jack Nicklaus’ career and all of Tiger’s so far.

Tiger Woods should tie Arnie Sunday

January 27th, 2008

It’s 12:39am, and thanks to DVR technology I just finished watching round three of the Buick at Torrey Pines.

Tiger is in complete control of his game, even after taking seven weeks off. The only weakness in his armor is the same one he’s always had, driving. Small weakness.

Should Tiger win, which is practically a lock with an eight shot lead, he’ll tie Arnold Palmer’s win total with 62. That would tie him for 4th place all time. Two more victories after that and he’ll reach Ben Hogan’s record. Rare air. Keep your eyes open. Golf history is being made live.

In case you’re curious, Jack Nicklaus is 2nd all time with 73 wins and Sam Snead is #1 with 82 wins. At the pace Tiger is at the last few years, he’ll take over the #1 spot by 2010 or so.

Ridiculous items from the 2008 PGA Merchandise Show

January 25th, 2008

Just what I need to improve my putting: The “Stripper Putter.”
Nothing like slobbering over at a set of DD’s for my preshot routine.
nipples

Is it cold in here?

Cart top luggage carrier, for all those extra golf balls I need when playing courses with lots of hazards. I know some players who could sneak a TON of beer onto the course in one of these.

Terminator 5
Rise of the golfers.

Tiger Woods’ secret golf practice routine is finally revealed!

Swing thoughts on your shoe. Um, ok…. What messages would you put in this thing?

This unit gives you the feel of losing your footing with one foot. Very useful.

Exactly what I was looking for at the "Professional Golfers Association" merchandise show: Wooden model airplanes!

Um… ok.

What every female golf diva (or gay guy) needs on the golf course: a "Bling Bag."

A big rubber ball between your forearms in the golf swing. Yup, that’ll help.

NO PICTURES! After snapping this shot a guy got in my face and put his hand over my camera and said "no pictures." I then infomed him that this unit was on display at a trade show and 120,000 people were going to see it… DUH!
