My golf stats tracker is online and working!

Related post to the previous entry about my sister site The Golf Space:

I’m happy to announce I’ve finally got the new Golf Stats Suite online and ready for you to use FREE at www.thegolfspace.com

Here is a sample round report.  This report is viewable from the main stats component or from each individual user’s profile.  All the crucial stats are tracked and computed such as scoring, GIR, Putts, Fairways, Saves and more…

Here’s the user stats for the year:

As always any feature at The Golf Space is FREE.

The Golf Space - Golf’s version of myspace

It’s time for the 3 month report card of HOG’s sisters site The Golf Space at www.thegolfspace.com. The Golf Space is golf’s version of myspace (only without the porn and the sexual predators… hehe).

For those who don’t know what TGS or myspace are, they’re “social networking” sites. Social networking sites are all the rage right now. In this type of site, a user sets up his own personal profile with blogs, photos, friends etc.

The Golf Space is the original golf networking site. Many others are starting to pop up and I wish them well. They’re even welcome to come by and register there to promote their sites. That’s what it’s all about.

Stats

The Golf Space opened in April of 2006 and since then has received over 700 member sign ups! TGS has had over 116,000 visitors. The hits are in the millions. There are over 400 “articles” on the site. An article may be a user blog, or a specially written article by one of the many TGS contributors on golf tips, fitness or any other golf related subject. There are 85 outbound links to golf related sites in the links section. These links are provided by TGS members.

So far there isn’t one ad and it’s all free, as it should be. There will never be a “fee” for any of the services TGS provides to it’s members.

Pop on over and set yourself up at TGS if you haven’t already. The TGS community is growing and thriving every day.

Australian golf balls

I was surfing around looking at sites who link to here (seeing who my REAL friends are). I found a site called PGA Tour Info that had a link to this story on a new golf ball from Australia coming out.

My only question is do these balls spin the opposite direction of balls made in the Northern hemisphere?

My killer fantasy team for this week

How’s this for a fantasy team this week? This has to be some kind of record. NONE of my players are even in the tournament and I’m wasting starts for Tiger and others… Beautiful. :-(

Match results

First round of this year’s match play at one of my clubs… The guy I played against was a very nice chap and putted lights out. He didn’t miss a putt until 17…

1. Par 5: I par, he birdies and I’m one down
2. Par 4: I bogey out of a sanded divot in the fairway, he pars. Two down. Uh oh. But I’m totally calm because I know match play is a marathon, not a sprint.
3. Par 3: I par and he gets up and down for par. Two down.
4. Par 4: I skank my tee shot but stay out of the hazard, he goes in the hazard. I par. One down.
5. Par 5: I skank my drive almost in the hazard and the hack-out 9-iron too. Somehow make the green in reg and barely miss a birdie. Two pars, still one down.
6. Par 3: I miss right and he misses left. I have lots of green to work with and he has none. I get up and down to bring the match to square.
7. Par 4: I par, he bogeys. I’m one up.
8. Par 3: I push my tee shot right and so does he. We both get up and down for par. One up.
9. Par 4: I knock my drive in a hazard, hack out and make a great par. He bogeys from the fairway and I’m two up.

10. I pull my 5-iron into the hazard (in case you haven’t figured it out..this course is hazard on both sides of almost every hole). I bogey and he pars to go to one up.
11. Par 4: Two pars, one up.
12. Par 3: Two pars, one up.
13. Par 5: I knock a 9-iron onto the fringe and get up and down to go two up.
14. Par 4: I almost drive the green but pin high left in a dirt hole. Hack it out to the wrong tier and 3 putt for a bogey. Back to one up.
15. Long par 4: I miss the green and he gets up and down for par to beat my bogey. All square.
16. Par 4: He makes a miracle par from a tree stump and I have a ho-hum par. All square.
17. Par 4: He’s getting tight under the collar but I remain calm. He pulls his tee shot into the left hazard. I it the fairway with a 3-iron and make par with a mud ball to go one up with one to play.
18. Par 3: We both pull our tee shots but I get up and down for par and he doesn’t.

I win the match 2 up on 18.

Strange, strange round. I shoot 73 with a terrible driving and putting performance. The two strengths of my game are putting and driving. I had 33 putts (not good) and missed all but one fairway with the driver. What helped me win this match was solid iron play and getting up and down around the greens. Up and downs are probably my weakest part. So strangely enough my weaknesses were my strengths today. Welcome to golf. I’ll never figure it out. It will all be different tomorrow.

Match tomorrow

I have a matchplay match tomorrow. It’s the first round of my club’s championship event. I come in as the “returning champion” and therefore the #1 seed. #1 plays the highest seed. But hey this is match play and anyone can have a hot or cold day so nothing is guaranteed and I know that.

I just plan on hitting fairways and greens and playing a solid round.

A report will follow.

I’ll have my thoughts on the British Open shortly too, as soon as I think of something worth writing ;-)

Sergio at Medinah is ancient history

Are any of you sick of hearing about Sergio Garcia at Medinah in 1999 and seeing the footage of him running and skipping across the fairway after hitting that tree shot? I am. Enough of the Medinah talk already.

Sergio’s “potential” is huge yes. But as of yet, that potential hasn’t proven anything more than that he’s a better than average tour player and not capable of a major win.

A win this week will do the trick for Sergio, but I’m afraid his mental and putting problems will once again cost him a major victory.

How far do you live from the nearest course?

The latest poll is now running! Thanks to a great suggestion from Cal the poll question is:

How far do you live from the nearest course?

Since I just moved (3rd time in the last year for those who are counting) I’m the closest residence to one of my home courses: River Oaks. I’m right on #1 tee and with a Pinseeker 1500 I shot my pad from the cash register in the pro shop at 152 yards.

My answer: ON the course.

Golf is a fascinating game. It has taken me nearly forty years to discover that I can't play it.
