Life takes over for a few days

June 30th, 2006

I’m going to be taking a break from major posting here for a few days over the 4th of July weekend. My “real” world has me moving out of the “big house” that I just built, and working on the beginning of what you’d call a “new life” for me. My personal world has been insane for the last few years and certain “things” have finally come to an end, thankfully. I’m ready for my new start and much more golf and blogging! ’nuff said.

My new place, albeit much smaller, is a 1/2 lob wedge from the #1 tee at one of my home courses: River Oaks. With a Pinseeker 1500 I shot my new garage at 154 yards from cash register in the pro shop.

I’m also glad to have the previous post about golf site Nazis at the top of the reading list for a few extra days as I think it’s a very important issue.

See you on the other side.

The Golf Space continues to grow, and apparenlty some feel threatened by it!

June 29th, 2006

My “other” web baby (HOG is the first) The Golf Space, at www.thegolfspace.com is growing very well. It’s now up to over 530 members and 70,000 unique visitors. The hits are in the millions. Not bad for less than 3 months. Not bad for NO $$ spent on advertising. So thanks to all my web buddies who have helped promote. You know who you are.

Making waves

I’ve had two “investors” wanting to buy in. I’ve had a couple of marketing guys wanting in. I’ve also apparently become some kind of “enemy” to some sites who are either about to attempt the same thing or be sponsored by someone who is doing the same thing.

Bad attitudes

I’m really getting fed up with the Nazi attitude some other web sites have. They seem to think that any other web site remotely related to them is an “enemy.” These Nazi types resort to all sorts of morally and ethically bad behavior like slander, lies, hacking, changing users posts etc., to try to snub their perceived enemy.

I just started a damn new web site and I’ve already got people thinking I’m some kind of “competition” to them. I didn’t start it to compete with anyone or steal business from anyone. I started The Golf Space because….NO ONE HAD DONE ANYTHING LIKE IT YET and it sounded like a cool idea!

I just try to make cool golf web sites and treat my visitors with good design, good content, cool features and friendly interaction. If you can’t handle that then that’s your problem.

Actions speak louder than words

I like to let my actions speak louder than my words. I’m friendly and open to all golf web sites who wish to link here or at The Golf Space. It’s all about networking and growing this whole internet golf pie together. Listen folks…one site isn’t going to steal your slice of the pie. Let’s just make the damn pie bigger eh? There are hundreds of millions of surfers on the web. You think YOU are the only one that’s going to get users? Come on!

Use the BLOG MENTALITY and network the crap out of yourself. Cross link all over the place. Make a bunch of friends who will PROMOTE YOU and give you WORD OF MOUTH which is more valuable than any banner ad. If you make enemies or bad mouth other sites/people, YOU will be the one who is hurt in the end by your actions, not the site you slander.

OK, I’m off my soap box now. Really folks…. can’t we all just “get along.”

New 2007 FedEx Cup Points System Released

June 28th, 2006

The PGA Tour has released the points system for the new FedEx Cup next season. It will apparently entice many of the “big” players to play more events at the end of the season and give whoever wins it a pile o’ cash.

I’m too tired right now to check out the details but there is more here.

Spouse or no spouse

June 28th, 2006

The latest HOG poll is a little different one. The question:

“Do you, our would you golf with your spouse?”

I have varying opinions on this. I take my golf game very seriously. The group I play in of about 8 guys are all 5 handicaps or less. We play by the rules, we don’t move around or talk while people are playing etc. So in that scenario playing with a spouse may not really be a good idea.

I voted for “sometimes” thinking I’d mostly play with my serious core group of buddies but would occasionally have a “hit & giggle” session on a date or with some coed groups.

VOTE NOW!

The Pundits Have Spoken

June 28th, 2006

The last HOG poll inqured as to whether or not people follow the rules of golf. The results please:

Do you follow the rules of golf?

There are rules? -> 3%
No. -> 2%
I bend them a little. -> 33%
Yes. -> 62%

I’m glad to see the majority plays by the rules and the smalles percentage doesn’t.

Patience, Patience, Patience…and the Survival Instinct

June 28th, 2006

Megan Heckeroth LPGAWell…See what patience brings? A couple of 68’s! Finally everything came together for me this week. Ball striking, fairways and greens in regulation, and most importantly my putting. 6 birdies the first day and a bogey free round with 4 birdies the second. Then the third and final day rolls around…74 :(

State of mind is key

I have had enough time to cool off and really think about the round and say that I choked and maybe giggle a little about it too. I have not had the experience of being at the top of the leaderboard so I was very protective on Sunday. But it’s all experience and preparation for the future. Now that I have that experience of being in the second to last group on Sunday, I can learn from it and improve my state of mind. Because that’s all that it is.

A life saving choice

When I first arrived in Lima, I went to the Holiday Inn to see if they had any vacancies. They were all booked up for the weekend so the receptionist helped me out by calling nearby hotels. Because there was a motorcycle event at the fairgrounds, everyone seemed to be full. I was going to go the hotel next door but then the receptionist realized that there was one more room left that he had missed on the computer; so I took it.

Callaway Golf Eyewear S205

June 27th, 2006

Callaway Golf EyewearCallaway has a new division called “Callaway Golf Eyewear.” Callaway calls their eye wear “serious equipment designed to enhance your competitive edge.”

There are three product lines in the Callaway Golf Eyewear offering:

1. Sports Series
2. Collection Series
3. X-Series

This is my 3rd review on CGE products and will cover the X-Series line.
Click here for my review of the Collection Series review.
Click here for my review of the X-Series review.

The model I’m covering today is the S205-bk (black).

Looks

The S205 (”205″ for short from this point on) is a cool looking pair of sunglasses. They’re very “manly.” The frames are fairly wide and beefy but very light.

The 205’s do a bit of the wrap around effect on your face and look very aerodynamic. They look great on the golf course but would also work nicely taking a cruise on your Harley.

Technology

The 205 is made of TR90 Grilimid, a composite nylon material that ensures the highest in durability, memory, and resistance to the elements. It is rated #1 in Sport sunglass frame construction. I can bend these pretty far and the snap right back into shape.

The 205 has a lens shape that very importantly covers a large orbital area, so the eye is fully covered and protected from peripheral light and wind.

The lenses of the 205’s (and the Callaway line in general) are made of a patent pending material called Neox. Neox blocks 100% of the harmful blue rays while letting more of the visual spectrum in. Your eyes don’t have to work as hard so they don’t fatigue as easily. The Neox tinting technology also allows you to see more detail on the course and even read the greens better.

Accessories

The 205’s come with a great hard case as do all the Callaway Eyeware products. I don’t really get companies that give you a soft case for eyewear. What’s the point of that? So when they break the soft case contains all the broken glass?

The hard case is spring loaded and seals tight to keep dust out. Obviously the folks at Callaway where thinking because you need a hard case as a golfer. I don’t like putting my glasses in my golf bag without protection. A stray ball could hit the bag, it could take a hit going in and out of the trunk or even a crazed player who loses it could throw a club and hit your bag (that has happened to me before).

Along with the hard case you get a soft slip case. This case is made of special fabric designed for cleaning the glasses.

On the course

Of the 3 lines of Callaway Eyewear glasses I own, I’ve worn the 205’s the most. Funny how I like the least expensive model in their lines at $95.00.

I’ve played a bunch of rounds with the 205’s and I love them. I don’t even realize they’re on my head because they’re so light. The wrap around lenses cover all areas of my peripheral vision, which I like. The shape of the glasses fits great on my head and they don’t shift around at all during my golf swing (and a lot of other stuff DOES shift in my swing).

I’m able to see the lines and read the greens very well with the 205’s. At the end of a long and bright day on the course my eyes are not strained and I don’t get a headache like I can from the bright sunlight and heat.

Conclusion

The 205’s are another excellent product in the Callaway Golf Eyewear offerings. Like the other glasses I’ve reviewed they’re very unique and stylish. They are very tough, flexible and durable. Most of all I’ve played some great golf with them on very bright days with no fatigue at all.

Like I’ve said in my two previous Callaway Golf Eyewear reviews, we have a winner here. David Ledbetter, one of the top golf instructors in the world, apparently agrees with me on this as well. He’s endorsing the Callaway Golf Eyewear line.

Happy blogday Golf Chick

June 26th, 2006

I’m about 6 days late on this post so sorry. To say I have a lot of “stuff” going on in my real world would be like saying “John Daly is kind of a redneck.”

So a very happy blog day to my good friend Golf Chick. She’s been blogging about golf for over a year now. Her writing is awesome and I love the angles and personality she has.

(Frosty beverage in air)….A toast to your 2nd year golf blogging Kristen. Here here.

Ben Curtis didn’t win yesterday with an 8 shot lead

June 26th, 2006

Play was suspended yesterday at the Booz Allen Classic due to weather conditions.

So Ben Curtis will have to try to hold onto his 8 shot lead for his remaining 6 holes today. He’ll be ok.

The coverage is supposedly on The Golf Channel right now but it’s not there.
