TPC day 3 – lovin’ it

Man is this tournament at the TPC a ton of fun to watch or what? I love seeing a course that can make the likes of Jose Maria Olazabal throw a ball in the lake in disgust, Ian Poulter pound the ground in frustration and others mumbling to themselves over a 123 yard shot on 17.

Meltdowns

Jim Furyk started the day in first place but had a very strange round with only 5 pars and a crazy score card totaling 75.

Arron Oberholser was atop the leaderboard until he got to the little 123 yard 17th hole. He knocked his tee shot in the water and then 3-putted for a triple bogey. He carried that good karma onto 18 where he hooked his tee shot into the water en route to his 2nd 6 in a row and a tie for 17th going into Sunday.

A total of 8 players shot in the 80’s while most of the field was in the mid to upper 70’s.

With Augusta lengthening par threes to 240 yards (they’d better not touch #12) and many courses scrambling to add length, TPC Sawgrass shows that courses don’t need to be lengthened. #17 is a MEASLY 123 YARDS and it’s more exciting than a 490 yard par 4.
