Bad Ass Wedges

I love companies that combine a rock & roll rebel attitude and golf. Most my readers also know I love mixing golf and babes any way possible. Golf gets a little stuffy sometimes and it’s good to shake things up like Bad Ass Golf. Their site isn’t a typical golf site. They combine Harleys, pimped out golf carts and leather clad babes to send their message: “We’re Bad Ass….Golf.”

Bad Ass Site

I thought of starting this review of the Bad Ass wedges by saying something like “want a bad ass short game?” or “want to hit bad ass golf shots?” But could see this review might go a little overboard with the term bad ass… I’ll try to keep it down to a minimum.

Bad Ass Lob Wedge

Bad Ass Technology (OK. I couldn’t resist)

The Bad Ass wedges are made of 431 soft carbon steel. They’re cast, but have the feel of forged due to the softness of the metal. Each wedge is finished with polished chrome which makes them look very nice at address or just in the bag.

Bad Ass FaceThe lob wedge has a thin sole which allows you get under the ball in even the tightest of lies, while the sand wedge’s wider weighted sole cuts right through sand and grass with ease.

The custom made lob is made to your specs for lofts of 58-62 degrees. The sand is made to your specs from 54-58 degrees. Lie angle is also customized if you need it. The cost of these loft and lie adjustments? FREE along with shipping of this $60 club when you buy from their site.

Get a grip

The grips are any of five options from Avon, including tour preferred, white tour preferred, perforated wrap, textured perforated wrap, and the tour soft.

I used the textured perforated wrap and it wasn’t really to my taste but to each his own on grips. It’s nice to have a choice.

Shaft

Bad Ass Top LineAll Bad Ass wedges come with a True Temper Dynalite shaft which is optimized for higher ball trajectory.

On the course

Standing over the club at address the lines and setup “look” nice. The club does inspire a confident shot.

My test rounds of the Bad Ass lob were in some extremely tight conditions. I was playing on dormant Winter grass and the lies were as tight as hitting off the cart path. I tried 4 different lob wedges on these type of lies and the Bad Ass’ sole was best at getting under the ball, especially for flop shots.

On full shots the Bad Ass lob performed perfectly. I got a TON of spin from this wedge. I had to readjust my distances a bit to compensate for the spin from the precise grooves. I did have some ball shearing (ProV1, Bridgestone e5 & e6) but the balls were still playable.

The lob performed well out of the sand for splash shots (where you drop the club down on the ball and don’t follow through). Fuller swing sand shots which needed more bounce weren’t quite as good with the lob as a standard sand wedge. But sand shots are not really the primary use for the lob anyway.

Conclusion

At $60 (shipping included) it’s hard to go wrong with Bad Ass wedges. The performance of these wedges can hold it’s own against more popular name brand wedges that cost three or four times as much.
