A Wie little mistake causes DQ

Samsung World Championship

Michelle Wie made an illegal drop in her first tournament as a “pro” on the LPGA Tour. She was disqualified and missed out on her first pro paycheck of around $53,000. Not quite the debut she was looking for.

Amidst all the Wie fanfare Annika Sorenstam ran away with the win. She lapped the field by 8 shots. Message sent from Annika to Wie: “Not so fast turbo.”

#9 vs #390

World #9 Jim Furyk had the Michelin Championship in is grasp. All he had to do essentially was two putt on 18. But a 3 putt on 18 put him into a playoff with world #390 Wes Short.

Short wasn’t even slated to play but managed to get in as an alternate after another player couldn’t make it. Short birdied 18 to force the playoff. Ted Purdy should have been in the playoff as well but carded a triple bogey down the stretch when his approach shot hit a sprinkler head and went into the drink on the par three #17th.

Furyk and Short tied the first playoff hole, #18. The 2nd playoff hole was #17. Furyk pulled his tee shot into the water. All Short had to do was get up and down for par to win and he did just that. So #390 beats #9. #390 goes from wondering if he would be eligible for play on the 2006 PGA Tour, to having a boat load of cash and a two year exemption. Quite a bit of great fortune for a player who didn’t think he was even going to play in the tournament…

Eaglewood

eaglewood13

Played a neat local course today called Eaglewood. The course is located quite far up the mountain side above Bountiful, Utah. There are some spectacular views of the valley and Great Salt Lake below.

75 with 5 birdies. Yep. Too many bogeys to go along with those birdies.

The erectile dysfunction comments are rolling in…

In a recent post I mentioned opening up comments without registration. It only took about 24 hours for the erectile dysfunction spam comments to start rolling in. The registration process has been turned back on. Sorry. Listen up though! It’s not that hard. You only have to register once then you can comment all you want.

I’m searching for a plug-in which will have an image verification for comments instead of registration.

Now THAT is a good birthday present

I had a little party at my place last night. I had a few of my golf buddies and a few of my musician buddies over for some munchies and “frosty beverages.” I have bit of a headache and I hope it goes away by 10:20a.m.. 10:20 is my tee time today.

My good pal Jim brought me a very nice birthday present (box of ProV1’s). THAT is what I call a good birthday present. I had to ask him if it was OK to use his birthday present to me as a tool to win bets against him on the golf course and he said “take your best shot.” Sunday pal, Sunday.

The 19th hole today

After my round I’m heading straight up the road to Rice/Eccles Stadium to see my beloved University of Utah Utes play San Diego State in football. After last year’s BCS busting 12-0 season and a complete obliteration of Pittsburgh in the Fiesta Bowl, this year’s 3-3 record is a little hard to swallow.

I started a blog about Utah sports so check it out if you are really bored: The Ute Blog.

New Links Page Under Construcion

Pardon my dust during construction/remodeling:

You may notice some strange formatting in the right column. The links section has been growing and I intend to make it MUCH bigger. It will no longer reasonably fit in that right column. So I’m working on a NEW links page which will have many many more links! (GolfDash is my idol in that category!).

The large cells containing all the links and blogroll in the right column are now gone. They’ve been replaced by one cell/link to the Hooked On Golf Blog Links Section!

The links page is functional but under construction. If you have any formatting suggestions or comments feel free to let me know.

The Pundits Have Spoken

The latest HOG poll is closed.

Where do you buy your golf gear?

Golf Store 37%
ebay 20%
Anywhere I Can 17%
Sporting Goods Store 13%
Course Pro Shop 3%
Online reseller 3%
Other 3%

The majority of you shop at a “golf store” for your gear and ebay was a distant second. Surprisingly, online was way down the list.

The new poll is a simple one: What is your handicap?

I’ve casted my vote: 2 and going up. :-)
