Golf Home Connect

ghcRobert Flournoy, a “self-anointed golf fanatic,” just launched Golf Home Connect this last weekend.

He was trying to find a home in a golf course community by using the web but ran into nothing useful to aid his search. So, being in this great country of opportunity, he started a web site to fill the niche he found.

Golf Home Connect was developed as a site to help avid golfers find golf communities around the US, Canada and Mexico.

Highlights:
• Golf community profiles
• News and articles about golf living
• Neighborhood information

Robert paid me a very nice compliment. He said I have “a finger on the golf world’s pulse.” Very nice.

So drop in and check out the site. Tell them mediaguru sent you.

Happy golf blogoween

Tour Championship Preview

It’s an exciting and yet sad part of the golf season this week:
The Tour Championship

The sad part is because this basically marks the end of the PGA season. There will be some “events” on TV between now and the end of the year, but nothing meaningful. What are us bloggers going to have to rant about? I’m sure we’ll find something…

The exciting part is this is our last chance to see the big guns of golf all compete against each other. The top 30 big guns/money winners to be exact.

Tiger has sewn up the money title for 2005 with $9,913,024. Vijay Singh is next at $7,733,503. Even with a win at The Tour Championship he won’t be able to catch Tiger.

Missing guns

Phil Mickelson has decided NOT to play in The Tour Championship this year. He didn’t give a specific reason other than it was a “personal, private decision” which he isn’t going to discuss.

Ernie Els is still recovering from his knee injury and will not be playing in TTC as well. So only three of the top five players in will be competing.

The Course

East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta Georgia is the venue.

Some interesting nuggets about East Lake:

1. The course opened on July 4, 1908.
2. The course was the home course of my all time favorite golfer: Bobby Jones.
3. Tim Bendelow was the original architect, but the amazing Donald Ross reworked the whole course in 1913. Reese Jones tweaked it a bit more in 1993.
4. The par 72 course measures 7,112 yards.
5. Vijay Singh has the course record: 63 in 1998 (par 70)
6. Preserving the traditions of golf, East Lake has NO golf carts. Walkers with caddies only. Excellent.

More new golf blogs

I just discovered The Undaunted Duffer through comments I read over at Bogey Lounge. I was reading Bogey Man’s post on Van de Velde trying to “play with the women” so to speak…

Golf Sports Blog has been around since May, but is new to me so I’m putting a link here too. His slogan is “daily digest of a hobby golfer.”

Golf Addix is “The first and the only Golf Blog in Malaysia since March 31st 2005.” For a blogger blog this one looks pretty good. He’s obviously good at modifying blogger templates to make them a little more original looking. Nicely done.

Beginner Golfing has also been around for a little while (July), but is also new to me. I like the cigar links. Right up my alley. I wonder if that cigar blog is his too?

“Bugger! Shanked it again” is the blog of my buddy Kiwi from down in the Southern Hemisphere.

All of these blogs are now in my HOG Master Links Section as well!

Rained out at Sleepy Ridge

Today three of my buddies and I tried out this new course called Sleepy Ridge. This shot below is of my pal Jim teeing off. You can see how close Winter is here when you look at the freshly snow-capped mountains in the background.

Unfortunately we only managed to squeeze in 9 holes before we were completely drenched with rain and frozen.

Bubble talk

It’s coming down to the wire for some PGA Tour players. Some players are trying to crack into the top 30 to qualify for the Tour Championship. Some are simply hoping to crack the top 125 to secure their tour cards for 2006. The players in 126-150 don’t get their tour card, but do manage to get into some tournaments through sponsor’s exemptions. Beyond 150…. well, it’s either Q-School, the Champions Tour for the 50 and over crowd, or time to get that job working as a club pro.

Below is the current money list for you to see who is hovering around the crucial levels, and who is circling the drain.

Some interesting players who are circling the drain:

-David Duval is at #260 with total 2006 winnings of $7,630 for 19 events. That’s a smokin’ $401.57 per event. That’s $40.15 for his caddy per event.
-Hal Sutton is at #247 with $18,320
-Paul Azinger is solidifying his position as a golf announcer at #186.
-Matt Kuchar 157.
-Lee Janzen 154.
-Duffy Waldorf 148.
-Kevin Stadler 168.

Note that some players on the list may have other exemptions due to certain wins or majors which give them several years…

Ok, so Tiger is playing in Dubai next Feb. So what?

All Tiger has to do to make news headlines is announce he’s playing in some tournament. This time in the Dubai Desert Classic in February of 2006.

What’s the big deal here? He’s only flying around the world to play in a tournament with a 2.4 million dollar purse. Gee, I wonder if he’s getting any of his “traveling expenses” covered for going over there too?

:-)

Moore power to you buddy

ryanmooreRyan Moore when I met him earlier this year

Ryan Moore became the first player since Tiger to earn his card straight out of college without going to Q-School by moving up to 113th on the money list last week.

I had a chance to meet Ryan and chat for a few minutes earlier this year and he was very cool. I’ve been quietly following him this season.

Super job buddy!
