Tiger won his 10th major championship today by taking the Open Championship trophy. Apparently the tweaking he’s been doing with his swing is finally paying off. His balance, tempo and form looked as good as I’ve seen.

The other quite noticeable thing about Tiger was how calm, in control and confident he looked all week.

So he’s now more than half way to Jack’s 18 majors. I’m still not sure he’ll get there. But it will be fun to watch him try.

It’s hard to say whether or not he will reach 18, but having 10 before the age of 30, maybe 11 if he wins the PGA Championship next month…most golfers don’t peak until early to mid-30s. If Tiger was barely winning these majors I could see the argument that he won’t get there, but fact remains he is blowing the field away is half of the majors. Plus, he doesn’t play in 40 tournaments a year like Vijay does, so wouldn’t Tiger’s physical body withstand longer than most?

You know what is more impressive to me about Nicklaus, it isn’t his 18 major wins…it’s his 56 finishes in the top 5, his 19 2nd place finishes. A couple of strokes here or there and that 18 is now 24. The fact that Jack was so consistant year after year. Tiger hasn’t reached that plateau, atleast I don’t think so. Tiger has had a total of 16 top 5 finishes (which is extremely impressive, but not as impressive as Nicklaus)
