Index page of Web Country Club designed!

December 31st, 2004

Check out Web Country Club now! This is my 3rd or 4th revision but it is starting to look very clean and classy.

I’m not a web programmer but I’m becoming one. I’ve gotten blogging & the php forums thing down fairly well and now I’m back to brushing up on web design. There are classes you can take from schools in most cities that are hundreds and even thousands of dollars. But if you get yourself a Learning CD-Rom you can teach yourself and learn a TON! VTC and Lynda Learning have large libraries and I’ve used them both.

I’ve been cramming on my html skills with Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004. I’m starting to scratch a little below the surface and it is quite an amazing application.

So I now have my initial design of the main page of Web Country Club. I hope to start working on CONTENT soon rather than design but it is all fun. The problem right now is that I’ve been saying up ’til 3am every day. It is now 2am.

I’ve also figured out slightly how to “blog” right into an existing web page. It can be done via frames or by pasting all your html code into your template along with the blogger tags. So you could basically use the blogger service and interface to simply post content into specific cells or areas on a web page. Perhaps there alone is some kind of market for someone.

No new news on WEB COUNTRY CLUB other than just the planning stage. Still waiting to hear back from my PGA buddy on the tracker. Hopefully that will come through. I’m learning more html & flash to hopefully make the site nice.

In my html experiments I’ve figured out that you can actually “blog” right into another web page. The easiest way I can figure so far is to use frames. The blog section is just a frame with the blog name in it. The other frames can be whatever you want. The other way to do it would be to create the page and use the blog code in the existing template that you want to keep (posts, archives etc). Haven’t tried that yet. The idea is the perhaps be able to “blog” the news and course/equipment reviews instead of doing the reviews in html and uploading them to the site… Anyone know of a better way?

Ran into an old buddy today. He’s retired and now is a course marshall here in town. We’ll play golf next summer.

Connections forming…

December 21st, 2004

Wow. A day after I get webcountryclub.com up and running (just a basic page) and post about it on the bog here, I make some progress.

A client of mine is a local pro. He is a very cool and nice guy. Today I let him know about webcountryclub.com and he thought the idea was cool. Then he mentioned that he was going to be the 2005 president of the local PGA Section! He was telling that unlike previous years he wants to get “the word” out more on local PGA and county golf course events. I told him we could use webcountryclub.com as a sounding board and I’d be happy to post info for the local PGA section and the county run/owned golf courses.

I also suggested to him that he and his other PGA pro buddies could be the featured instructors for the golf instruction section of the site. In turn they would get referrals and more clients. Publicity and more possible clients for them and “content” for webcountryclub.com. Win win.

During this conversation he mentioned a local firm that does golf stat tracking had worked out a relationship with the local PGA section to do tracking of their students. I plan on getting in touch with these folks and trying to work out an arrangement for them to be the official stat tracker for webcountryclub.com.

A lot can happen in 24 hours!

Coming soon… Web Country Club

December 20th, 2004

I’m quite an addict when it comes to certain things. When I dive into something, it is all the way and head first! I had fun setting up Pro Sound Blog, and a few other sites. I now have started on a new web journey: WEB COUNTRY CLUB (www.webcountryclub.com).

I’ve registered the web name, arranged and host and now just switched the name servers over (that’s web Greek for “you should be able to surf there now”). There’s nothing there yet but there will be.

I envision a golfer’s site with various cool golf related items such as News (pga, lpga, golf business or whatever), the golf blog of course, course reviews by me (and other users), travel, web forum groups/discussions, stat tracker, buy/sell/trade, and whatever other features YOU my friend suggest that I like.

I’ve already done a bit of research on ecommerce and may set up some online shopping there. I’ve made a connection for gear and we’ve come to a very tentative verbal agreement. My connection is a dealer in all the MAJOR brands like Titleist, Callaway, Taylor Made, Hogan and more. I’ll basically move product for him on the web at my site! This may all be WAY down the road but to quote Gary McCord “you have to have a plan.”

So here is your assignment my golf friend: Think about what YOU would like to have on your favorite golf related web site. When you have it, let me know your ideas. Thanks!

what is this backwards?

December 19th, 2004

Flo, gin is a sin. I golf.

Turn this sentence around backwards and what does it spell?

Golf finances Christmas

December 18th, 2004

I cashed in the last of my tournament winnings today at one of my favorite local courses called River Oaks. I’ll write up a review of River Oaks in the future.

I bought my pop some really nice golf stuff. Hope he likes it. Oh, I couldn’t resist getting myself some very nice golf pants as well…

Inversion

December 18th, 2004

Inversion
Originally uploaded by mediaguru.

During the Winter time here in Salt Lake we get this phenomenon called an “inversion.” This is where high pressure squashes the cold, moist, polluted air and forces it to the lowest altitude. The valley acts like a soup bowl containing the foggy air. At a certain elevation you can drive up a road and right into a cloudless sunny day. Drive back below the soup level and you’re in the fog again.

When the inversion happens the temp is cold and the ground stays frozen. The air quality is terrible and it really makes my eyes sore. Last year we had 21 straight days of this soup.

The soup stays until wind or precipitation washes it away.

What golf gear is Santa bringing?

December 16th, 2004

Santa was wondering what golf gear he can drop by for me this year on the 25th…

My golf gear is top of the line. I may skimp at the grocery store and buy generic raisin bran, but I don’t skimp on my golf gear. There’s not a club in my bag I’d replace. I have 4 golf bags, countless accessories, tons of premium balls (ProV1, HX Black), a Sun Mountain 3 wheeler…. I could go on.

When my wife asks me what golf stuff she can get me for my birthday or Christmas I tell her don’t bother… Besides, I have pro shop money anyway.

So I guess there really isn’t anything golf gear related for my Christmas list. Quite frankly, I don’t think Santa can afford any of the golf gear I’d be asking for anyway. Now if Santa wanted to sponser a golf trip to say…Augusta, I’d be interested…

Kip is the Big Break II Champion

December 14th, 2004

Didn’t I predict this outcome? Ahhhh matchplay. I’ve never felt more intense, nervous and exhilarated as I have during match play. You will find out a lot about yourself during matchplay. Matchplay is definitely the best way to find a champion whether it be at your local club, or the BBII.

The match tonight was very gutty. I’m glad it was tight, and even went to two extra holes. The match balanced on two putts that ended up hanging on the edge of the cup. I’m not going to go into a play by play here, but I’ll say that the guy I wanted to win did. (Not necessarity the one I expected to win). Plus these two both played very well. They were both under par I believe. At least they didn’t look like the hacks from BB1.

Kip appears to be a very genuine guy. His swing isn’t picture perfect but he seems to have a knack for hitting a great shot at just the right time. I hope he does well with his new car, new dough and 4 exemptions. I’m sure he and one or two other BBII players will get some sponsors.

Can I get a sponsor?
